Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia - New Treatment - Testimonials

Testimony of 2 foreign doctors treated on 22 November

The procedure went very well, however a little burning of contrast was experienced during the procedure.
The recovery was quite uneventful except a little burning sensation upon urination which started around day 9 and
lasted about 2-3 days but has now settled down completely. I suspect it was either debris or blood coming out.
Dr. Matseke has also recovered but he unfortunately experienced frank blood in his semen for about 2 days or so.
His problem has also settled down.
As for the other matters both of us have experienced an improvement in sexual activity especially the erection and
its maintenance.
On the whole  I believe I am correct (and speaking for both of us.) in saying that we are grateful to you for all the work you have done on us and
the way your clinic and staff treated us.
The program is well organised and has a world wide reception. This is a world first.
We will fill in the forms at the end of the month.

Comment from a physician who was trained by the Saint Louis team on embolization of the prostatic artery

Dear Prof. Pisco and Tiago,

Just to let you know that about 3 weeks ago I performed PAE on our first patient. 82 year old with diffuse athersclerosis, 130gm prostate, was catheterized for acute retention about 6 weeks prior to the procedure. The catheter was removed after commencing medical therapy but prior to PAE he was very unhappy.

We saw him in clinic this week where he told me that for the first time he stood in front of the toilet a pissed like a young man! In short he is delighted!!

Thanks again for your help and guidance. I am optimistic that we (IR and Urology) can begin to develop the service here.

Hope to see you soon,

Regards, Allan B.

R. K. – EAP 1348

Just an update. I am doing well. Only get up once a night with steady stream and with very little retention.

Overall advantages so far, much improved quality of life and:

  1. Had no side effects after procedure
  2. More sleep
  3. No more self catheterization
  4. Better sexual function
  5. During day can hold much longer
  6. Can eat more spicy foods
  7. Other advantages: it was a day outpatient procedure, and I could resume normal activities within two days such as tourist visits in Portugal.

The excellent results continue even when I eat food with which I had problems before. I have no day or night problems and zero pains. I have to get up once or twice a night but with a good fast stream and little or no retention.

Dear Prof. Martins Pisco

I hope You are well and happy. I am very gratefull. The improvements exceeded all my expectations. Because of the direct results, it is like a miracle. The PAE really improved my quality of life. I now realize how much the LUTS were irritating and annoying. Because the symptoms developped gradually, I had adapted to them. It is such a joy to be able to pee well and normal again. I will write about my experience in the PAE fórum.

P.C.- PAE 1329

I hereby offer my humble thanks for the opportunity you have offered me to participate in the revolutionary and innovative Clinical Test of Prostatic Embolization.

I would also like to mention that after the intervention my quality of life improved substantially, especially in the frequency and urgency of urination, in the quality of performance and sexual pleasure and not least, to stop taking the tablets that I had been taking for several years me of the inherent side effects.

Very important was also the fact that after the intervention had not had to do any type of medication.

I would also like to express my gratitude and appreciation for the human service that has been provided to me throughout the entire process and has been provided to me by the entire team.

Once again thank you very much.

Sincerely.

Dear prof Martins Pisco,
I am wishing you a speedy and healthy recovery from your own prostatic artery embolization.
It was a wonderful experience for me to meet you and be treated by your excellent team.

I am doing fine, no complications.
In the next few weeks ago I will send you my success story to be added to your webpage. Francis will do the same he promised.

Dr. Pisco:

It was great to see you. Thanks for letting me visit for the day. Your team is fantastic.

You have done something very special. Despite the effort from urologists to stop you from PAE, you continued forward. You have already won the battle.

The world would not have this miraculous procedure if you had not. To me, this is a very important story.

Best: Michael

Dear Martins,

Thank you very much for your hospitality, instruction and guidance. I very much enjoyed spending the couple of days with you and your excellent team leave you feeling optimistic that we can soon begin a PAE service at our institution. I am very impressed by your achievements, both clinical and academic (despite significant adversity!) leading me to believe that we can achieve our modest goals here in Jerusalem working together as a radiological/clinical team.

I will keep you updated as to our progress, look forward to seeing you soon and wish you the best of health and ongoing success.

Fondest regards,

it seems that despite all hurdles my PAE went well and I think both Dr Daniel and yourself again for that. I am very fortunate to enjoy good health and so this treatment consitiutes a very rare visit to a doctor. After a little research on the internet I was very fortunate to come across your name and unique research. I’m sure that the future will show the efficacy of your treatment. Already TURPS is on the point of being recognised as ‘barbaric’ and It I think that all other mechanical/laser treatemnts will fall into the same category in the near future.

I find the growth and pace of human development absolutely amazing and when I learn about the discoveries of people like yourself it is very exciting for not only the develpment of the unique technique and that you have been sucessful in introducing it to the ‘mainsteam’ where it will surely be accepted, despite others’ criticism. The flat earth society seems to be still alive, but not well!

We are in Vale Judeu in a house we have rented until the end April when we will return to ur boat which is now in Germany for the winter. We have been shopping for some food (Jeanette is a good cook thank heavens!) and I have just made a fire to warm the house. I send this note to you with a glass of vinho tino to add to the relaxing moment.

We love Europe and have applied to the Portuguese Consulate for a long stay visa and so with a bit of luck we may become ‘neighbours’!

That’s the plan, let’s see what actually happens!

Have a good weekend and thanks again!

F.J.B. – AND EAP. 1297   DEAR SIR. PROFESSOR MARTINS PISCO,

I am your patient in the study of the innovative treatment of embolization in PROSTATE BENIGN HYPERPLASIA.

I would like to thank you in particular, but also your team, the opportunity  was provided to be part of the study for this treatment  innovative approach to H.B.P. I was diagnosed with benign hyperplasia of prostate cancer in 2011,  since then I started taking the alpha silodyx blockers,  doxazosin and also the permixon 160 that never resulted.

I became aware of this innovative treatment for the prostate  through a friend who has undergone this treatment,  and that after two years he felt very well.  I contacted the Saint Louis Hospital in Lisbon to make an appointment  with Professor Martins Pisco, which took some time  shortly. I did several tests and tests to see if I was  in conditions to make the treatment, which came to be. On 02-11-2017 I was treated, I went to the  hospital at 0800 and I was discharged at 1700.  At the time the size of the prostate was 65cc and p.s.a.4.55. On 06-12-2017 after one month of treatment, I went back to doing  prophylactic echography and PSA analysis to evaluate the  results.

For better could not be, the size of the  prostate passed to 39cc and PSA 1.97. I stopped taking the damn alpha blockers that besides  did not solve the problem had immense contraindications  and I felt some. Today I do not take any medication to  the prostate, urine without difficulty what did not happen, me to urinate once or twice during the night what is  normal.

I recommend to those who suffer from BPH to contact the TEACHER  MARTINS PISCO, IN THE HOSPITAL SAINT LOUIS IN LISBON, TO  SITUATION ANALYSIS. For all that I have described above, and why already three  months and the improvements continue, I want to express the feelings  of gratitude and recognition for the work  Professor Martins Pisco and his team, and also for the success  this new method.  Many thanks and best regards to the entire team.  professionals. GREETINGS.

In the past 21 July 2016 I underwent a surgical intervention for treatment by embolization of a tumor in the prostate. This intervention was carried out by Professor Dr. Martins Pisco and his team, who praised for the care, attention and merit of the high professionalism they dedicated to me during and after the operation. For everything they are creditors of the highest esteem, consideration and respect.

Well there

Dear Professor João Martins Pisco,

date July 2018 SEVEN Years on the date you submitted me to the embolization of the prostate.

I would like to inform you of my state of health after this intervention:

– I left from that date on to do any type of medication;

– I did not suffer any kind of side effects;

– I normalized the urinary output (in the previous three years I had 3 hospitalizations due to interruption);

– the last PSA (November 2017) scored 0.02 ng / mL;

– my sex life has not suffered any damage, “I forgot” that I have a prostate.

I want to thank you for the quality of life that the Professor has given me.

Three other friends of mine also resorted equally to their services with equal success.

I remain indignant at the attitude of Portuguese health institutions regarding the recognition of practices.

Thank you very much

More good news, I am able to return to performing in theater as an actor and will be working a few months in California from May to July — thanks to you and PAE this is possible again.

All the best to you,

Greetings from New York. I hope you are well and that you are enjoying the holidays with your friends and family. I wanted to thank you again and tell you that my life is so much better now after your procedure. I don’t have to get up at night to urinate and I’m sleeping very well. I have not had any discernible side effects and everything seems to be working in perfect order. I can now sit through a movie or a play and not have to worry about getting up to urinate. My wife Carole and I are now planning to take a long trip to Thailand and Viet Nam and I can rest assured that I will have no problems, thanks to you. Another thing that I’m so happy about is that I am NOT taking any medications whatsoever! Thanks to you. I tell my amigos about the procedure and they are very impressed. Perhaps you’ll have some new clients! Carole and I look forward to returning to Portugal this next year and we’ll stop in and say hello. Again, Obrigado Doctor!

“My Brother Shaul forwarded this E mail to me ,over all there is an improvement but we understand that

the full success takes time as it is a process to reduce the prostate size, and may take a couple of month Shaul reports an improvement.

he is having full control and does not have to go urgently,  also the number of times he goes at night are  reduced.

about  me I can tell also an improvement  and I also have a full control ,but it changes some nights were better than others,

again I expect more improvement over time .so over all I guess I need more time to see a full recovery,

I definitely would like you to explore the health spa options for me as I will come back for treatment with Dr Manuel Ribeiro.”

Hi

Positive feedback for you:
It’s now nearly 5 months and I can report very significant and welcome improvement. There were some signs of improvement from the start, but always very variable. At about 3 months it became more consistent and I have not had any serious problems for the last 6-7 weeks.
So there’s still some variation, but such that at the worst it’s a minor nuisance and at best a complete fix.
I am therefore pleased to report the treatment has worked well for me and is a big improvement to my quality of life.
Many thanks!

Dear Professor,

Greetings to you. A week ago I was embolized and I started to answer the questions posed by the questionnaire: I will say, without excessive optimism,

– that I did not experience any of the symptoms listed in paragraphs 1 to 9 and 13 to 15;

– I have already noticed an improvement in the symptoms, namely a more complete discharge of the bladder and less nocturnal urgency. There are 2 nights that I only get up 2 times;

– on the 1st night I did not have to urinate more often than usual (4/5 times);

“I’ve had some constipation that has passed; – do not have any post embolization pains.

Best Regards,

A.D.

Dear Professor,

Thank you for the articles. The information about me is both correct and ok with me. I hope the articles in some small way can support you and your treatment. Let me thank both you, your team and the hospital staff for an extremely professional, engaged and friendly treat and good care. Please also give my regards to Hospital Director Maria Clara Pinto for her kind treat.

I feel absolutely fine now. The burning feeling that I had when I urinated is gone since a couple of days and the slightly raised body temperature I had for a few days after the treatment is also gone.  Regarding the raised body temperature, I am not sure it is significant for you since I have all my life tended to get that easily for a short period. The urine flow is good, and I currently get up only 1-2 times at night compared to 4-6 times before the treatment. I have booked a monthly control including the recommended texts with my urologist, so we will see what those say.  I’m also looking forward to testing the sexual ability in a few days (3 weeks after treatment), as it feels quite promising.

All in all, so far, I think this is one of the best things I have done, and I thank “higher powers” for you and your treatment.

Best regards,

J.O- PAE 1248, 26 October 2017

I was treated for prostate disease by Dr. Pisco in 2017 and I want to bear my testimony.

The disease that affected me was benign prostatic hyperplasia. The symptoms that affected my quality of life daily were difficulty urinating, frequency of high urination, ejaculation with unusual and sometimes diminutive or almost absent appearance, and feeling of not completely emptying the bladder. Had high PSA (about 10).

I was treated by other physicians for over a year with tablets (combodart and avodart). I noticed some improvement in the symptoms, although very slight. Further treatment was scheduled for another year with the same tablets at the end of which further tests would be done.

I was not pleased that the results achieved so long were as minute as the prospect of another year of taking tablets. Because of the treatment I noticed the following consequences: relaxation of the sphincters including the anus sometimes with consequences that can be imagined, decreased desire and sexual function and permanence of the same symptoms although with very slight improvements.

I chose to hear a second opinion, in the case of Dr. Pisco, whose treatment I learned from a report in a weekly newspaper.

I went to an appointment and in a short period did the embolization treatment.

On the same day of the treatment and after a very short period (few hours), not registering any pain or any other type of limitations, I was discharged and walked home without any effort.

Improvements in urinary difficulty were almost immediate and as the days went by (few) increased rapidly. Less than a month after the treatment I no longer felt the bladder emptying and urinating as before having hyperplasia. I even “heard” because the jet was much stronger.

I stopped completely with the pills, I am not taking anything rigorously, the symptoms related to the sphincters disappeared completely, the sperm is already with the appearance that it had before, the difficulty of urinating disappeared and the PSA returned to normal values.

I leave here my testimony because I am satisfied with the results that I achieved, given the expectations of the treatments that I knew as conventional, with the consequences that I knew they could bring and which I thought were unique and inevitable.

I recommend to those suffering from prostate diseases that, before deciding on other types of treatment or intervention that may bring associated unwanted consequences, in their own interest, listen to Dr. Pisco’s clinical opinion on this type of treatment.

A. M. – PAE 1193, Dr. Martins Pisco,

Please find attached my 6 month urological results, as well as requested questionnaires.

I do not have any forms to complete the next required results. Please could you email me these forms with the required completion date by return email?

As I have been feeling well I have stopped taking the Duodart for the last 6 months, and all is well.

I hope these results are satisfactory, and look forward to hearing from you in due course. However, should you require anything further then please feel free to contact me.

N.K.- PAE 1281- Dear Dr. Pisco,

I know that you are a remarkable scientist, a lovely sensitive and considerate person.
I am very lucky to have found you. Martins, you are my friend.
I am sending you some photos for your webpage. You may use them as you please.
I plan to complete my report and send it after my Prostate ultrasound test at the end of the month.
Meanwhile, here is a history of up-to-now symptoms:
PAE-1281: 7/9/2017 (noon)

J.C.- PAE 1229-  Dear Dr. Martins Pisco.

I am attaching the PSA and ultrasound results done on August 22; 3 months after PAE. I just got the results today. The ultrasound was a pelvic, so I do not know how this can correlate to the rectal one done on August, 2016. However, the next one I will done on November, it will be at the same and using the same technique, so maybe it will be a correlation. The PSA was done at the same laboratory as before. This one dropped from 3.83 to 2.63. After tomorrow I have an appointment with an urologist (Dr. Jonathan Moles); pointed-out by my family doctor to schedule an Urodynamic. This test cannot be schedule by general practitioner; but by an urologist and getting appointment with doctors here is not as easy like in Portugal or Peru.

Overall, my prostatitis-like symptoms has gone. I do not have prostate pain or burning during urination anymore. Also, I am checking my urine at home in a weekly base using a urine test indicator and I do not see any trace of blood; as I used to see before. I done wake-up at night to urine anymore and every time I urine I do not feel the sensation that it is not empty. Urine flow also similar to what I used to have when I was my 30-40’s.

Once I have the results of the urodynamic studies I will forward to you.

Somehow I feel that the PAE was helpful on my case. We will see what is the evolution in the coming months.

Thanks very much,

Sincerely,

F.R.- PAE 1267– Dear Doctor Martins Pisco:

It has been a month since my PAE procedure.  First of all I would like to thank you and your team for the friendly and kind care that you provided during the tests and procedure.  The procedure was far less traumatic than I expected, but of course my reference is a prostate biopsy which is quite traumatic.  I have followed the recommended recovery process and so far the results have been good.  I will schedule the recommended tests to be done with my Urologist here in California and I will send the results as soon as I have them.
In the mean time, I now only wake up once in the night to urinate instead of the 3-4 times before the procedure. I can go 5 – 5 1/2 hours of sleep without the need to urinate. I also now rarely have to push to start urinating and the flow feels better.  Ultimately the flow test, when I take it, will show the results in data, but I expect it to confirm my observations.  I will also start the diary this coming week and complete the survey.
One thing I am curious about is the PSA levels right before the procedure and right after the procedure. Could you please send me those figures?  Also, did the MRI the day after the procedure show tissue necrosis?
I look forward to your reply and I would like to again thank you and your team for the care and for having such a positive impact on my life.
Best regards,

A.F.- PAE 1246– Hi It’s been one month. I can report significant and welcome improvement. I noticed some improvement in the first few days but it was very sporadic, since then it has gradually become more consistent. I say more consistent because the symptoms always have been very variable and I’m still having some days/nights better than others. But overall it’s much better and I think still continues to improve and become more consistent. The improvement is in all metrics:

  1. Flow – can’t measure rate but can now project 25-30 cms against zero before.
  2. Hesitation and interruption – mostly much less
  3. Voiding – certainly better
  4. Nocturia – mostly reduced, sometime now just twice nightly which is welcome

Sexual performance – I wish I had a larger sample to report (just for statistical significance you understand), but really, all fine, no complaints 🙂 Side effects / after effects – I have experienced none from your list or any other. The only downside was significant discomfort in the 8 hours following the procedure, I was not prepared for it, but it’s a small matter. So all positive. I will report any changes. Thanks
J.R.-PAE 902-Testimonial – Prostatic Arteries Embolization – Professor Doctor Martins Pisco

It is about saving lives. It is not about the traditional view concerning life or death. In death, we would not have a prostate issue. There would be no suffering. To live means to be alive – to share, rejoice, witness, laugh. However, in life there is also room for suffering, negating some of the experiences mentioned above. Professor Pisco, you have given us the ability to diminish suffering and to regain the opportunity to our better selves.  The actual procedure itself was a non-event and made extremely so by your hospital, staff, nurses and other doctors. Each person knew the procedure, its effect on the body and post physical results. All made the complete treatment cycle a secure, confident, painless experience. Your complete team treated me with kindness, understanding and empathy. Included in the attributes listed above, were the secondary hospitals and clinics for the additional pretests: artery scans, prostate and bladder ultrasound. Care, empathy, knowledge, professionalism was the norm. A great team.  The actual day of treatment, all my anxiety and nervousness were quickly put to rest. The 1 hour pre-procedure saline/pain medication was event free. At the actual Treatment Theatre, all was clockwork organized and were seen to be confidently prepared, calm and very competent. When the other doctor approached me, he then again explained the procedure, coupled with a sedative to further eliminate any remaining nerves. As I recall, within an hour, treatment completed and I was returned to my hospital room.  My only discomforts were in my left testicle and kidney area, as I believe only occurred due to the fixed hour long position on a hard surface and resulting numbness. Within an hour, the discomfort had vanished. I was able to urinate normally without using my catheter and experienced no pain. The next day, now out of the hospital, I had some expected aches and a bit of pressure around the groin region, but again, devoid of pain. On day 3 to 6, after the procedure, I did have a fair amount of blood in the urine. After the catheter removal on day 6, the next day 7, the blood was visibly less and from day 8 – no blood.  Urine frequency was every 30 minutes to 1 hour for the entire 7 days from the procedure. From day 8 to 15, every 2 to 2.5 hours, with complete emptying of the bladder. The stream is progressively stronger than before they placed my suprapubic catheter (2 weeks prior your treatment) and consequently, the time to completely empty the bladder is noticeably less. No stitches. No post anesthesia narcosis. No long hospital stays. No home care. No incontinence. No sexual impotency. No retrograde ejaculations. No scars.  In regards to outcomes and feeling, I am still getting used to the sensation of bladder emptiness after I urinate and the ability to be able to urinate when I have the need to. It is quite a freeing psychological state I have not had for 10 years. The stresses and high anxiety associated with this ailment is really understood by those that have it and those close friends/loved ones who stand near-by to witness such a constant agony.  It is important to understand the debilitating nature of this ailment – from searching all the WCs in the vicinity – to being in a public gathering, meeting, movie theatre or the anxiety of a plane trip, where the day before, ample pre-planning and rationing of food and water is the norm as to avoid a potential Acute Urinary Retention Episode (AURE) on the foreign land you just arrived. Perhaps an otherwise innocuous infection, could echo back into the prostate and cause a urinary tract infection, leading to more antibiotics and another catheter at worse. Prior knowledge of weather reports was paramount as well. A sudden drop in temperature could magnify the symptoms: frequent urination, excessive pelvic pushing to begin, counting glasses of water, wine, coffee to determine if a peak volume has been reached, so as to not inflict another AURE.  Being on vacation, family dinner or stuck in traffic in your car with the bleak, dejecting, mournful realization of another AURE – because no matter how many times you try to urinate (which by then could be every 10 to 15 minutes), you know you cannot empty your bladder. Doctors call this overflow. Now your stress and anxiety/fear levels increase exponentially (and that of your partner, loved one, friend). No choice, you travel fast and straight to the hospital emergency room. You begin again to explain to all the doctors and nurses you have Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH – enlarged prostate)… You take daily medications, etc – all the while, you are in excruciating pain. You will explode. They now proceed to do an ultrasound of your bladder. Discuss again with others. Finally relief. You have a catheter and urine begins to warmly flow out. The next day, you feel the foreign object causing a great deal of discomfort and depending on your position, pain. You are back in the world of the inability to lead a normal life.  So to living. We are in the 21st century and Professor Pisco has discovered/pioneered, a system using our internal highway (arteries, veins) to deliver a remedy directly to the affected organ without the need to sacrifice otherwise other healthy organ/tissue parts. No collateral damage. He still remains in awe, amazement of the results and statistical patient satisfaction. Again, he is using our internal pipes, highway system to get to the root of the problem. A modern day forefront scientist, that remains uniquely compassionate and cerebral in this endeavor.  Dear Professor Pisco, it has been an honor and privilege to be patient 902. Again, the most difficult aspect of your procedure is not the actual treatment itself, but the psychological retraining of my daily behavior after having this condition for long. BPH and its ramifications, no longer need to be the focus of my every existence. A constant distraction of life.  Thank you Professor Pisco.

E. D. – EAP 1227 – Hola Doctor Pisco,

So nice to hear from you. Carole and I had a wonderful time in Portugal and we look forward to returning again. Forgive my delay in communicating with you, we returned to New York to a very busy schedule. I must tell you how happy Carole and I are with the excellent results of my procedure! Truthfully, I can tell you that I feel completely back to normal with no complications from the procedure whatsoever and no symptoms of BPH! No more looking for bathrooms everywhere … No more getting up in the middle of the night to urinate … no more weak stream.  Attached to this email are the two completed forms (IPSS, IIEF).

Thank you! Gracias! Obrigado! We will remain in communication with you and keep you informed as to my progress. It was a pleasure to meet you and we wish you and your colleagues continued success.

Gratefully,

It’s taken a longer time to get the psa tests you requested. It is unusual for someone to request this each month so my Urologist and the system in general is giving me a hard time. Here is another test.

Dear Doctor,

I am doing fine, no straining, no weak stream, very little urgency, fewer frequency, no sensation of incomplete emptying, getting up once or twice at night.
My next visit with my urologue is planned on June 19.
Thank you and best regards.

EAP 969 – C. C.

Dear Martins, Attached are PDFs of my March 2, 2017 test results, 13 months after my embolization. I am pleased to report continuing good results in all categories. So much better than finasteride or TURP from what I understand. Sincerely and with appreciation,
EAP 1163 – W. T.

hello Dr. Pisco,

I have to thank you. Your procedure is making a big difference in my life. It is a big relief to not have the emergency urges that I used to have. I am still tapering off the medicine but I do not take Avodart anymore.

I recently went to the Urologist and have attached his reports as well as your questionnaires.

Let me know if I am missing anything.

D.H. – EAP 1173

Good morning to the BEST DOCTOR IN THE WHOLE WORLD !!! I thank God for your knowledge and your expertise on the procedure. I’m doing great  and I can pee like 4 feet in front of me and today I will write on forum about you. I had only a small bruise on my leg where you went in and that was all. I will send you my PSA around the 6th of March. My question is do I have to wait to have sex ?  LOL … I had an active sex life before and its been 11 days and I feel like I’m 20 yrs old again LOL… You have been great and I will be coming to see you in a year.

Best Regards,

Keith Pereira, MD

Assistant professor Division of Vascular Interventional Radiology

Saint Louis University Hospital

Dear Prof. Pisco, Dr Bilhim and team,

First of all I would congratulate you on being the pioneer in Prostate artery embolization for BPH. This minimally invasive procedure has indeed been a revolution for elderly men seeking an alternative, non-surgical option who quality of life has been devastated by this disease condition. Thank you for the time and effort your team has devoted towards spearheading the clinical development and research of this innovative procedure.

I truly appreciate you giving me the opportunity to train with you in Prostate artery embolization. Being an interventional radiologist practicing in the US, I am truly inspired by the clinical skills, technical expertise and the excellent patient care that is exhibited by you and your entire team; all with a caring touch!

I wish you all the success in the future in making this procedure standard of care for all patients with BPH. Ill end by saying, when I get older and if I develop problems related to BPH, Hospital St. Louis in Lisbon with Prof. Pisco and his team would be the place I would go to!

Thank you again,

Over the years, a 64 years old Canadian R.M.B. tried everything he thought that was possible to treat his prostate disease. He explored and learned about this disease and, today he shares on his book, “Healthy Prostate”, and on his website, some of the things that he has discovered during the process..

On the website, he wrote an article refering to the hope that the expert Dr. Martins Pisco has brought to him, due to great improvements made in the prostate’s treatment, which has no side effects and already had positive results in 800 patients.

If you want to know more about these life changing experience, you can read it all about the prostate’s embolization article here.

R.M.B.

I was operated to prostate, three times, 14, 10 and 6 years ago. Six months ago a catheter was placed in my bladder due to urinary retention. I refused new operation because I suffered very much at the time of  the surgery. I looked for Professor Martins Pisco that explained to me the procedure, the risks and showed some resistance to perform the treatment because it was the 1st case that he was treating. After performing some exams with my strong request he accepted to treat me.

I did not feel any pain, I went home the same day and 4 days later the bladder catheter placed in bladder for 6 months was taken out and I started passing urine without any difficult. I used to urinate several times a night but now I get out of bed only once a night. My sexual life improved. I recommend the treatment for every man with prostate problems.
M. I. B. – EBPH 1

When I was prepared for a conventional surgery to my prostate, I accepted the purpose of Prof. Martins Pisco to participate in a pilot study of prostate embolization.
The procedure was performed on April 22, 2009, and a week later the quality of life was much better, due to one third reduction of prostate volume and of the times to urinate.
Then the improvement continued slowly without any recurrence and my sexual activity did not change.
I am very happy with the result of embolization and to be part of the pilot group.
M. M. D. – EBPH 2

I am 78 years old and over 20 years that I suffered of benign prostate hyperplasia.
The main symptoms were nocturia 5 times a night, urgency and incontinency, the prostate volume was 143 cc, the PSA was 24.2 ng/ml. During this time I refused prostatectomy and even biopsy, however the situation was becoming more severe.
I accepted to participate in the pilot study of Professor Martins Pisco, because there was not any damage to the prostate and no scar.
The procedure was performed on May 28, 2009, and I went home in the same day. I did not feel any pain. After some rest during the week end I continued my normal life.
The ultrasound showed decreased of 6.3% of the prostate and the PSA decreased to 15.10 ng/ml (9 points). The times to urinate decreased and I feel better although still some incontinence.
I am very grateful to Professor Martins Pisco.
F. D. P. – EBPH 3

My father, 76 years old, was with bladder catheter for 3 months. He was treated by an urologist from Tomar, that on May told him that he would continue with bladder catheter until September and then he would see…
My father that was a dynamic person, he stopped to do his preferred activities, such as to take care of the farm and he even stopped the walk with the family due to bladder catheter.
However, through a nurse from the health center in Torres Novas he was addressed to Professor Martins Pisco. After the performance of some exams the embolization was performed.
My father went home in the same day he became to be the same man.
The bladder catheter was taken out, and the procedure was successful 100%. After 6 months the success continues, and the health problem of my father was cured through this fantastic technique.
C. J. daughter of T. J. – EBPH 5

Prostatic arteries embolization was performed to me by Professor Martins Pisco. I am very happy, I am much better and I feel completely well. I have recommended the treatment to all my friends with prostate problems. Don’t be afraid of performing the high quality treatment that will improve the quality of life.
J. C. – EBPH 6

I went to Hospital São José with a problem, I was unable to urinate, so they put me a urinary catheter.

There I have heard other patients with the same problem, talking about an innovative method of treatment, and one of them spoke in Professor Pisco who works at the Hospital Saint Louis.

I was interested and I went to the hospital to learn this method of treatment. I spoke with Professor Pisco, and he explained to me that the treatment consisted in embolization. I was satisfied with the explanation, I was admitted, did the treatment, and today I feel quite well after two years.

In my opinion it is an effective treatment and the Professor should continue to help and treat all people with this kind of problem.                                                                                                                               V.C. A. – EAP Nº7

I want to thank the treatment (prostatic embolization) and I am very pleased to Professor and his excellent team.

It was a good job, and I feel fully healed again. I renew my thanks to Professor Martins Pisco and his team for letting me become a man again.

Many thanks.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   D. P. – EAP Nº8

Three years ago I started with a prostate problem, and one of the symptoms that bothered me more was the stress urinary incontinence, because it often made me go to the emergency room and it always finished with an urinary catheter.

In consultation with the urologist, he showed me the technique of embolization of the prostate performed by Prof. Pisco.

On 07/09/2009 I was hospitalized and out in the same day, without any other symptoms.

I had the urinary catheter just for a week. If I had to choose again, would not hesitate to choose the embolization of the prostate.                                                                                                                                   A. M. – EAP Nº9

After the treatment in 24 September 2009, I stopped to urinate every hour during night and day. I started to urinate fewer times and in greater volume and the quality of my life has improved.
The sexual activity has also improved. I consider the embolization a miracle treatment, and I returned home 4 hours after the procedure.
A. C. F. – EBPH 12

I was in a very critical symptomatic situation, when the embolization of prostatic arteries was performed on 12 October 2009. In this day I was admitted to Saint Louis Hospital at 9 o’clock. At 12 o’clock I went back to my room, following embolization, that lasted less than I hour, under local anaesthesia.
At 6 p.m. I left the hospital without any pain or any other unpleasant symptom. On the following week I did not feel significant improvement, but after the 2nd week, I felt a great improvement day after day. It is worth to record that there was not any negative effect concerning sexuality.
Of course, there is a short period of time, but as I feel at the moment, I express my thanks to Professor Martins Pisco and all his team. It is an honour to be connected to his pioneer work.
J.M.L. – EBPH 13

Again thank you and your team with the expertise and affection with which I was treated for benign prostatic hyperplasia.

My case got started with urinary retention in December 2009, when I had to have an urinary catheter, and started treatment with alfa-blockers, that didn’t work out.

Knowing his experience in the technique of uterine artery embolization and prostate, I schedule an appointment at the Hospital St. Louis, hoping to avoid surgery.

I am very grateful for their service and very pleased with the results, considering that three months after embolization, which took place in February, I find myself quite well.                                                   J. P. EAP Nº18

It is with great pleasure (and because it’s true) that I keep the feeling of satisfaction for the excellent results of embolization.

I have no words that can convey my appreciation for the knowledge and intelligence to perform such technique.

Thanks.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               J.R. EAP Nº19

Congratulations to both. To me, for the wellbeing and to Professor for the success achieved with this technique. I was the 19th patient to undergo (and in good time) to this clever technique, innovative, simple and, for me, not traumatic and highly effective. To explain the degree of my satisfaction, I’m going to transcribe some data that I consider relevant, not only for technical reasons but also for statistical purposes. I’ll try to transcribe precisely the discomfort that I felt before embolization. I was very reluctant to leave home, even the home of friends. The urge to urinate was so frequent that I was ashamed to be always in bathroom. When I went anywhere, the first thing to do… try to find a cafe or public toilets. I had difficulty in retaining urine, given the urgent and uncontrollable urge to urinate, sometimes became visible even in the pants. At home, at night, I got to get up 10 times. It was a despair my way of living and to those around me. Thus, on the recommendation of my GP, I went to London to a private doctor. He told me that I need a operation. During this time, my friend and family physician, Dr. Joao Afonso Domingues, (in good time) went to Lisbon to attend a seminar, lecture, conference, where he heard Prof Martins Pisco precisely on this issue. Through my doctor got an appointment with Professor Martins Pisco in which patiently explained to me the technique would be used. Later he sent me to the urologist Prof. Campos Pinheiro, to be observed and analyzed the diagnostic tests. On the day of Prostatic Artery Embolization I was fully aware that I could hear sometimes and see through the monitor reflected in a glass, all the work done. With the aid of modern and sophisticated equipment used in the Hospital St. Louis, the young doctor, Dr. Tiago Bilhim, from Anatomy Department and a member of his surgical team, (with a huge control, high technology, precision and firmness), was carrying out the task, by the guidance of Prof Pisco. For all this, Professor João Martins Pisco, helped me in regaining the joy of living and enjoying a sense of well-being. Knowing nothing of medicine, I say that this simple idea , but it was only possible with a deep knowledge of human anatomy and how your body is able to react. I do not know how to give you all my gratitude.

J.S.R. – EAP 19

Despite his advanced age, patient’s treatment was a success. This is a fact confirmed by himself and also by urologist , Dr. Paulo Vasco. He regained quality of life, as the eighty-seven years of age allow, no pain, none of the previous complaints. I consider a great privilege, to know and follow very closely. The prostate problems are a tragedy for many men, again thanks to your commitment and dedication. For this reason, I hope that more people can be saved from falling into the wrong hands. They remove all of the quality of life without any concern for the damage they cause. I conclude by thanking blessed to know a man like Prof Pisco consider to be a living example that we should never lose hope because there are still miracles. A.O.L. – EAP 19

Between 19/09/2009 and 07/07/2010 I went to the hospital 13 times with problems of urinary retention.

Between 19/09/2009 and 04/08/2010 I didn’t have the urinary catheter just for 10 days. There were occasions when I took the catheter in the morning and afternoon I returned to the hospital to put it back.

My sexual activity before 19 September 2009 was normal.

On 20/05/2010 the biopsies revealed chronic prostatitis. Diagnosis: fragments of prostatic tissue with the structure maintained. There are areas of glandular hyperplasia and atrophy of others associated with chronic prostatitis. Neoplasia is not identified.

I did the embolization on 15/07/2010.

When I took off the urinary catheter I urinated 3 times that day. In the first time a very small amount, however, the little that I did relief me; in the 2nd time I had a much greater sense of relief. By the 3rd time I urinated quite naturally.

I feel perfectly fine and my sex life returned to normal. I feel like 15 years ago.

From my point of view this treatment is spectacular and with immediate effect. I recommend it to anyone who has doubts.

A.O.L. – EAP 19 – It was I who sent you this case, when through the nephew, I learned that Mr. suffered from prostate trouble. Despite his age, an advanced bit of the patient, the treatment was a success. This is a fact confirmed by himself and also expert opinion in Urology, Dr. Paul Vasco, where recently and according to his instructions led. Dr. Paul Vasco, said he knew Prof. John Robin, and his work, claiming to have the greatest respect and admiration. Mr. regained some quality of life, such as the eighty-seven years old let you, has no pain, nor any of the previous complaints, other than the lack of mobility in the legs, which is due solely to their laziness to walk and exercise. As for me, I consider it a great privilege to be able to know and follow very closely, all your work and can thus be witness of young people, who without your intervention, would be hopelessly broken, as the case of fibroids. Prostate problems are also a drama for many men, again thanks to their commitment and dedication, they can have their solution. For this reason, I disclosed by all possible means, the information so that more people can be saved from falling into the wrong hands, they draw from them all the quality of life without any concern for the damage they cause. I conclude by thanking the blessing of meeting a man like Mr. I consider to be a living example that we should never lose hope because there are still miracles.

20 years ago I had the diagnostic of BPH, taking a daily pill of Pradif. Of course every year the problem worsened and the doctor came with the surgery. Well, there I was postponing the decision mainly for my fear of sexual dysfunction. But I read a newspaper about this intervention without important risks, with local anesthesia, without bleeding and as an outpatient procedure. So, last year I did the intervention and I’m happy because the problems of BPH disappeared. Of course it was not free, but I would definitely pay again for that. There is another question, more general: We should admire all the doctors, scientists, engineers, etc.., who have the courage to “invent” new processes even with social and professional risks.

I want to give my public testimony of such a good technique that this team is developing.

L.O.R. – EAP 30

For years, many urologists recommended me the traditional surgery.

I never had courage because I was afraid that something could go wrong.

Fortunately I learned the method of embolization of the prostate performed by Professor Martins Pisco when I was reading the Newspaper and then by search over the internet.

In fact I recommend this method to everyone who can, because it’s worth. It’s simple, fast, nondestructive with local anesthesia and two hours after we left the hospital, feeling the positive effects after one or two days.

In my case it’s been a month and feel the flow slowly getting better and I no longer feel a full bladder. It means that the prostate is shrinking in size and thus facilitating the urinary tract.

My sexual function is now with more confidence.

I think this method of Professor Martins Pisco should be appreciated with an open mind by his peers.

L.R.EAP Nº31

I am very satisfied with this treatment to prostate. I’m fine.

J.F.G.F. – EAP 37 – I am pleased to inform you that I am very satisfied with the results obtained after embolization prostate held by Mr. Teacher and his team on September 16, 2010. I must inform you that my quality of life improved dramatically after this intervention, because the intervals between urination returned to normal. Thus, now I can sleep on a fairly consistent basis. I am grateful to Mr. Martins Pisco Teacher for the discovery of this innovative treatment and pioneer of the prostate, which is a major breakthrough for the medical world.

J.B. – EAP 38

To Professor Pisco and his team my congratulations for the great work. After the treatment I regained the joy of living. I stopped taking medications, urinary complaints disappeared and the sexual part is better. So I say again that there is no money in the world to pay it. Congratulations!

J. A. EAP – 45

Four months after the embolization treatment I’m quite pleased with the results obtained, I don’t need to urinate frequently, especially at night, achieving a peaceful sleep now.

Sexually, I achieved satisfactory erections and penetration. I feel quite satisfied and would recommend.

M.A. EAP Nº50

I am 64, and did the embolization at the end of October. I suffered a lot because of the constant weight on my bladder, due to the enlarged prostate.

I understand this kind of treatment and scheduled an appointment in order to do the treatment.

I have to say that after a month I feel much better and I had results in the first week after surgery, especially with regard to urination.

I am very pleased to took this decision

A.M. EAP Nº52

In general I consider that improvement of my problem was quite good. I feel more healthy, more active in general and I can get more rest during the night. I’m very fortunate to have opted for this treatment.

A.T.M. – EAP 52

One year after my treatment, my life is totally different. I
never felt again the weight on my bladder, or frequent pain during urination. It disappeared and I make a normal life now. Too often felt the urge to urinate and I’d always urinate very little.
I had once a urinary catheter. Now, I do not take medicines for the bladder or prostate. The decision to consult Professor Pisco was the right decision after all these years of suffering.

A.T.M. – EAP 52

After the embolization of the arteries of the prostate, I got a life with more quality.

Before the embolization I had difficulty in urinating. I woke up four to five times a night. After embolization I wake up to urinate two times and I’m going well.

My sexual activity also improved considerably.

M.M EAP Nº55

Embolization was 5 stars. I don’t need a urinary catheter since treatment. The sexual life could not be better. I stopped taking drugs.

J.M.C – EAP Nº59 – After nine months after embolization continues to occur improvement. • The flow increased to more than double • The PSA halved • The volume of the prostate reduced half • The bladder residue reduced almost 15 times

B.A – EAP Nº60 – Over the past year, I was detected Benign Prostate Hyperplasia. The symptoms I had, and I realized, were increased frequency of urination, feeling of not having completely emptied the bladder after urinating and increased frequency of urination during the night. After various tests it was found a benign prostate enlargement. After several examinations, I submitted myself to a new treatment “Artery Embolization Prostatic”, which treatment began at 15 hours (entry Hosp. St Louis) and ended At 23 hours the same day. Today I can say from experience and the results of the tests, the treatment resulted perfectly. Gradually decreased frequency of urination during the day, I have the feeling of not having emptied the bladder after urination, and can spend the whole night without having to get up to urinate. The tests I have done my prostate volume decreased gradually and a substantially +/- 20%. Since I still keep unchanged all other functions, including sexual, and not have been subject to a “classical” intervention, manifest here my thanks to Professor Martins Pisco and all his team.

B.A – No. 62 EAP

It is with great pleasure that I leave my testimony.

After a conversation with a friend, I told him I had prostate problems and I was taking medication for eight years. I took regularly tests, analysis, ultrasound and a biopsy, I had a prostate of 48 grams. I urinated about five to six times a night. He called me after, saying he saw a notice in the newspaper about prostatic artery embolization.

Today I can say I feel much better, I no longer have weight in the bladder, once or twice going to the bathroom during the night instead of five or six. I don’t have urinary incontinence. I am very grateful to Professor João Martins Pisco.

I recommend for those who have benign prostatic hyperplasia to consult Professor Martins Pisco in Hospital Saint Louis in Lisbon.

To the entire staff of the Hospital, my thanks.

H.P. EAP Nº64

I want to say how much I have improved after the embolization, on past February 25th. In exams done one month later, about March 25, verified a decrease in volume and weight of the prostate that allowed me to urinate and to have a better quality of life. I stopped taking pills to urinate and contain the values of PSA. During this time the flow of urine has improved, especially at night. Before treatment I do not drink liquids during the afternoon and now I do, no matter what time.

A.J.B.D. EAP 75 – I will treat prostate and feel good before had taken drugs and urinating often, not now, urinate standard I feel good.

F.R. – EAP 77

Being a bit pessimistic by nature, some time after treatment, I felt that I´m not better. But when the weeks passed I saw that the improvement started frankly. I feel completely satisfied. I thank Prof Martins Pisco the opportunity to do this treatment. Sincerely,

A.M.-  EAP 80 – After the consultation I had with the Lord Teacher … and have theoretical knowledge of the treatment process to the prostate by open surgery and, or, Resection of the Prostate endoscopically … I opted for the treatment of embolization: by this method seems me rational, logical and the most innocuous! -It Was me made embolization Prostatic on 11 April 2011. Before this intervention: I had pain on urination, could not control the urge to urinate; The urinary stream was a wire, sometimes gouty! I -Levantava-five seven times to urinate. Then I started to take the Pradif 0.4 mg and improved slightly over a year or so. However, everything went back to its previous state. After being embolized: -The Number of micturitions per night was reduced to three to four times per night. -A Painful urination decreased considerably in the order of 90%! -The Urinary stream became stronger, some 75%. -The Vesicular capacity also increased from 130cc to 230cc. For all this, I am satisfied with the medical intervention that I was asked by the Prostate embolization; -pese although still have sometimes a slight difficulty in controlling either urgency in urination I! A sincere word: worth it to submit myself to the embolization Prostatic process! I am sincerely grateful to the Lord Prof. Martins Pisco and all its Medical Staff.

After one month of embolization of the Prostate, made by Prof Martins Pisco and his team I feel better, particularly in the difficulty to urinate.
My quality of life has improved dramatically. Now, in most nights I can sleep at night, something that could not do in past .
The flow of urine and the amount improved.
For all that stated above, it is easy to conclude that I am very pleased with the result.
N.A.S.S. EAP – 82

I would like to personally describe the innovative treatment: Embolization of Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH), that I underwent in April 2011. The clinical signs began in 2003 when going to the toilet became frequent, 5-6 times a night. After urinating I had the impression of a full bladder and also noted that urine flow was low. Years after I did an US and I was not able to empty the bladder. At the emergency department, an urologist placed a catheter. PSA tests and a prostate ultrasound were negative. With these results I began a medication to decrease the volume of the prostate but with no success. The urologist told me about surgery. I have learned about a new innovative minimally invasive treatment and get in touch with the hospital to schedule a consultation with Prof. Pisco. He explained me the treatment. In April 2011, I underwent prostate embolization. Weeks later I noticed great improvements since all negative symptoms disappeared without any medication. As an example, I stopped going to the toilet during the night, the flow became more intense and more satisfying sex life. I believe in this new technique. Thanks to Dr. Pisco and his team since my quality of life has improved 100%

A.R. – EAP 84

Once again, thank you for the excellent team work at the Hospital of St. Louis, coordinated / led by Professor Martins Pisco, which I believe is technically very competent in this Innovative Treatment of Prostate Embolization. I also would like to write about the Professor’s dedication and availability these months following treatment, which gives me great satisfaction. I really appreciate the performance of Professor and his team during and after the treatment. It really increased my quality of life. Best personal and professional wishes.

Professor Martins Pisco and all elements of embolization Staff, are creditors of all my respect and consideration and mercedores that innovative treatments made by them do are publicly considered very high merit to our social life.

I did the intervention precisely one month ago.
Made exams, transrectal and ultrasound flowmetry and the results are very good. Although, only one month has passed after the intervention and my urine flow tripled. Sexual performance improved and the constant trips to the bathroom stopped. Now I go to bathroom two to three times (previously 6 to 8 times). As I said earlier, it is too early, but I already feel the results.
I can say that I feel better.
J.V.C. – EAP 93

M.M.S. – EAP  94 – Beautiful day was having lunch and watching the television news on TV, when suddenly I see a story that interested me soon enough. An innovation in medicine, to treat benign prostate Hospital in St. Louis in Lisbon, made by His Excellency. Professor Martins Pisco. I was delighted to see and hear such a story and then immediately tried to address the issue. After a few contacts, reference marking and some medical examinations, the day finally came (May 26, 2011), was 58 years old on that date. My history is that he was being followed in Urology queries in a Hospital in Coimbra for about 6 years and the last medical decision was indeed the surgery, since values were to be high, the PSA was 9.6 and the prostate with 122cc, which was scary. Had difficulty urinating, especially the first morning urine, had no jet, the bladder was always full, did not control the urine and estaa already have some incontinência.Em May 26, 2011, the prostatic embolization I was made at hospital St. Louis with the Hon. Professor Martins Pisco and his dignified medical team. It was a very happy day for me, the work was done in about 1 hour in the morning, then went to the room until about 17H, then returned home. Embolization was performed if pain either during or after, had no adverse reaction, I was always awake during treatment without pain or something abnormal. When I returned home rested for 4 days at the end of that time I returned to my job as usual, but with many improvements in every way. The next week after embolization, already urinated well and with some jet, did not have the problem of incontinence, controlling much better the bladder and is not to go urinate immediately, controlling so hours without the need to pee. I was delighted and highly satisfied. The end of a month I went to analysis and the PSA 5.36 and what was my surprise that the July 15, 2011 was already the PSA to 3.86 and with a volume of 94cc. Honestly, it was a great job. Today I am another man. Urino well and jet, can control urinary retention (hours) that such was not the case, I feel more and erection (drops in underwear) “once was” and the first morning urine so much trouble had “already it was “. For all this only thank and congratulate the Hon. Professor Martins Pisco and his dignified medical team, for the excellent work they do for the sake of HEALTH. Many Thanks.

C.C. –  95 – GOOD AFTERNOON … MADE IN 2011 MAY embolization OF PROSTATE IN THE HOSPITAL S. LUIZ IN LISBON WITH DR MARTINS PISCO.TENHO ME GOOD SENSE HA ABOUT A YEAR WAS ONE OF A MEDICAL CINSULTA FOR THE FIRST TIME, THAT I FOUND WAS WELL, NOT HAVE HAD complaints UNTIL TODAY.

On March 10, 2011, I collapsed and was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Doctors realized that I had excess urine retention and drained three liters of urine from my body. I was sent home 9 days later with a Foley Catheter through the abdomen. I was also told that I had a very enlarged prostate blocking my urination and that I needed either TURP or Greenlight laser surgery to cut away the excess prostate.

I did not want such a medical procedure because I read TURP and Greenlight Laser procedures have a high rate of retrogradeejaculation. I then read about Dr. Pisco and his new treatment, Prostatic Artery Embolization. I flew to Portugal from Hong Kong in late July and decided to give him a try. Before leaving, I had an ultrasound of Prostate by Rectum and was told my prostate size was 120 gm.

On July 21, I underwent Prostatic Artery Embolization. I was not very optimistic because after the operation, I still could noturinate after the Foley Catheter was clamped. Finally after about two to three weeks, I was able to urinate to a certain degree after the Foley Catheter was clamped.

My urination steadily improved. One month after my embolization or August 24, I had another ultrasound of prostate by rectum and was told that my prostate had shrunk from 120 gm 90 gm.

Finally, on November 1, I was admitted to hospital in Hong Kong and given a series of urination or uroflow examinations. I was told that my urination had improved enough and that the Foley Catheter could be removed.

Today, November 8th, I had another ultrasound of prostate by rectum. My prostate shrunk again to 76 gm. My urination now is quite strong and smooth. It has not been this good for ten years.

J.L.G. – EAP 109

Sorry I have not spent a lot a time you. However, you did a great job ending my urinate problem. It only took about three month in 2011 for my problem to be solved.

Finally, I have always showed the video on facebook below many times. I have always said you are a very great man.

J.G:L.G – EAP 109

Despite only having spent 24 hours on my treatment, I already feel some improvement, I urinate more easily and with jet, that previously could not. I Don´t feel pain and have to urinate less.

A.B. – EAP 110

I just want to say that my sex life, from the moment in which surgery was performed, improved over 50% and I am quite satisfied.
After almost 3 months of intervention, I am very well, happier and with other quality of life.

Intervention was simple and efficient; – After intervention I started to urinate; – I sleep peacefully through the night without interrupting sleep; – Total elimination of medication-2 tablets daily (Avodard and Doxazozina) , – normal sex life.

Postoperative monitoring is efficient through examinations and analyzes.
For all this I express my gratitude and appreciation for the work of this wonderful team and also for the success of this new clinical method.

A.B. – EAP 110

A.M.B -EAP(110) – Good afternoon. For shall the question, I have to say that my sex life, from the time when the surgery was performed, improved by more than 50% and, in such respect, I am quite satisfied.

After my treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia, I want to express my joy, I get better for my urinary flow in this short space of time and I want to express my gratitude to the St. Louis Hospital and all people, especially to Prof Pisco e Dr. Tiago Bilhim for practice this technique with such good results.
S.T. – EAP 114

After almost three months of this intervention, I am very well, happier and with better quality of life, to describe the best after the intervention. – Simple and effective intervention; – After the intervention started to urinate and empty the bladder at once; – I sleep peacefully at night without having to interrupt sleep; – Total elimination of medication daily (2 tablets daily of Avodard Doxazozina); – Normal sexual life; – Cost of the intervention relatively accessible; – Efficient follow-up with blood and imaging tests.

For all this I express my gratitude and appreciation for the work of this wonderful team and also the success of this new clinical method.

S.T. – EAP 114

A month after embolization my quality of life and self-esteem have improved remarkably.

– I stopped taking any medication;
– I eat and drink without restriction;
– I wake up to urinate 1-2 times a night instead of 4 or 5;
– I have a greatly increased urinary stream;
– Decreased postponed urination;
– Sexual activity was not changed;
– The recovery was immediate post-embolization (5-6 hours), without restrictions.

It shocks me that urologists do not inform their patients of this innovation in the treatment of BPH.

A.R.F.T. – EAP 115

I started my first appointments with the urologist 15 years ago when I was 47 with first signs of reduction in urine flow. I did the ultrasound examination and prostatic PSA every year. I started treatment with Benestan (Alfuzolina) and there are about 4 years also started with Duagene (dutasteride). With these medicines I felt some improvements in the urinary frequency but about a year or so the situation was getting worse and the last three / four months. I woke up about four/five times a night with great difficulty to urinate. As the quality of life was deteriorating I thought about surgery to fix the problem.
I was obviously very concerned about sexual dysfunction (that was my big concern with surgery). Fortunately, I watched a television program, about the technique that Dr Martins Pisco was applying to patients with BPH.
I also read the website of the HSL and the testimonies of men satisfied with the results of embolization. I did not hesitate and arranged an appointment few days after. From the first contact to treatment everything was very fast.
I arrived the hospital on Nov 24th 2011 at 10am and left at about 6 pm without any limitation. During my stay I had to urinate and I was positively surprised with the result. A month and a half after my symptoms substantially improved. The prostate volume decreased from 97.2 g to 67 g and that means that now I have to wake up once a night. Also my sexual function improved substantially and now I feel another man, confident and happy. Because of this I feel an enormous gratitude for Prof. Pisco’s work with the development of this technique. It improves the quality of life of many men. I wish the team could still continue for many years to make men happy.
Thank you.

J.A.Q.C.M – EAP 133 – Dear Dr. Pisco, Then you’ll Embolization Intervention performed by Your Excellency on 22-09-2011. I’ve been informed that I have some significant improvements since urinate less often at night, urinate better and with less pain especially to follow the Teacher’s advice stopping Tamsulosin (do not take it) still hoping that the landing and just go further improve. I also have a good news, my free / total PSA is down (with copy) went to 5.940Ng.ML (was afraid) but is much better. Please accept my greetings.

J.P.P. – EAP 145 – I am very happy with the results. I am very grateful to Mr. Teacher and his team, God bless you.

F.G.T.M. – EAP 158 – I declare to all intents and purposes that in November 2011 was the subject of a prostate surgery ‘by Mr. Professor Dr. Martins Pisco, at the Hospital St. Louis, and from then until the present day with significant improvements on the health problem he suffered.

M.J.F.N. – EAP 161

I want to congratulate Professor for all dedication and innovation in the treatment of problems related to the prostate.
Thank you very much

A.J.F.P – EAP 188 – I should add that I am very satisfied with the treatment to which I have suffered – prostatic artery embolization – due to suffering from benign prostatic hyperplasia, as the symptom that had previously disappeared resulting in a very satisfactory quality of life with regard to urinary function and performance in terms of sexuality. Congratulations dear teacher, the results obtained so far reached far beyond my expectations as response to the questionnaire of 6 months. I hope to continue to maintain this state of health and certainly turned hereby report the results of the next examination. Thank you very much teacher. .

L.G.F. – EAP 241 – I want to thank you for the excellence of treatment that was dismissed by the doctor so much as throughout his beloved team. I already have many improvements in my health after being subjected to the treatment of embolization of Prostatic Artery on the last day April 5. May God bless you all.

J.M.N. – EAP 261 – Teacher is to be commended for all the commitment, dedication and innovation in the treatment of problems related to the prostate, Well there be. Thank you very much.

J.M.N. – EAP 261

I want to express my gratitude to the Professor João Martins Pisco and

his collaborators for the treatment :EMBOLlZATION of benign prostatic
hyperplasia. I received an email from a friend about the treatment of
prostate, done by Professor João Martins Pisco, at the Hospital of Saint
Louis in Bairro Alto. Fortunately I decided to have an appointment with

Professor. I did some exams and On 23 February, at 14h50 i started
embolization that was completed by 16h20 and go home in the same day.
My life changed radically . now i can go out with my friends. Again, I want
to thank João Martins Pisco for care, attention, and my well being.

F.G – EAP 214

I consider a great privilege to have known Professor. I am extremely happy with the last exams. They showed how accurate and efficient the technique used to treat the problem that I suffered. Nevertheless it is still an experimental practice; the positive results of my case were attested by my personal urologist here in Brazil. In fact, Dr. Claudio Chagas was surprised and excited by the general improvement.

Every day I feel better. I can say, without any embarrassment, I’m fine. So from my experience I can confirm that the embolization procedure works and works well.
And I take this opportunity to thank you. The Professor is really a great scientist and researcher, a benefactor of mankind, a “Great Soul”, like Aristotle called to great personalities.

I wish much peace and serenity.

F.S. – EAP 223

After about two months after the embolization, I want to inform of the effects produced in this period.
I begin by recalling that performed a prostate operation in 2004, which allowed me to solve the problems for 5 years.
New complaints began after that time, worsening this year, blood appears in urine, sometimes more intensely, but with 2 very serious bleeding situations that led me to the emergency.
Embolization eliminated this problem and was a page turning in my health and therefore in my life.
I began to have a normal activity and this increased my confidence and self-esteem.
For all this, I am not only satisfied, but especially privileged to have benefited from the study. I hope the authorities will recognize that embolization is a method of inestimable value in this pathology.
Professor, I finish with my most sincerely, and with immense gratitude for all you did for me.

.Just want to recall that I have performed a surgery to prostate in
2004, and stay assymptomatic during + / – 5 years. After that, blood
appeard in my urine, and I had to go to hospital. This situation was
traumatic. Embolization solved this problem and was real important in my
health and therefore in my life. I began to have a normal activity, with it,
increased my confidence and self-esteem. For ali this, I am not only
satisfied, but especially privileged to have benefited from this study. I hope
that it will be recognized by the authorities as a method of inestimable
value in this type of pathology. Professor, I finish with my most sincerely,
and with immense gratitude for ali you did for me.

A.C.P. – EAP 263

I want to thank ali care and attention from professor in such successful
treatment. My doctor in brazil only gave me an option: surgery, the
consequences were truly disastrous, and traumatic. I knew this treatment
with a taxi driver that drove me from airport to the hotel in lisbon. When i
want to urinate i had to go to the bathroom quickly, i urinate often (three to
four times a night). Always feeling full bladder. After treatment i practically
stop felling that. After 6 months, my psa is 1.8, i sleep whole night , the
sensation relief in urinary tract is notorious. Dear dr martins pisco, i just
want to express ali my joy and my family for me. lm felling cured. Thank
god to ali: doctor martins pisco and ali his team of doctors, nurses, receptionists, and administrative group.I’m 72 years old and I suffered for about 10 years from benign prostatic hyperplasia. Symptoms increased and I had to urinate more often than
normal,(3-4 times per night). I never had signs of blood in the urine, or
burning in the urethra during urination. My prostate was very large (volume
of 153 cm3). Total PSA analysis showed, a value of approximately 10 ng /
ml after reaching a maximum value, above, 12 ng / ml. During this long
period, I avoided prostatectomy, that was suggested by urologist. The
situation was becoming unbearable, affecting therefore my sex life. After
some research conducted by my daughter and some effort by my eldest son, I went to the Saint Louis Hospital. Prof.. João Martins Pisco used the
Prostatic Artery Embolization a new method with rapid recovery of the patient, because it is less invasive. The intervention took place in St. Louis
Hospital in Lisbon on 19/04/2012 and returned home the same day. I had
some pain in the first three days, relieved by prescribed medication and
ice, on the site operated upon. For me it was easier than if I had gone to
the dentist to extract a tooth. After resting for the weekend, I continued to
do my normal life, having also experienced my new sexual performance,
stemming from my new physical wellbeing and mental. After the first 90
days, prostatic ultrasonography showed a volume of about 62 cm3 (about
a decrease of 40.52%) and the analysis PSA value of 2.0 ng / ml (a
decrease of about 8 points) . The urinary frequency returned to normal,
with the feeling of living like I never suffered from this disease, go back to
sleep, as if twenty years. Currently, I live as if I had never ever suffered
from benign prostatic hyperplasia and only feel that way, thanks to the
efforts of Martins Pisco and his competent team, the vision it once had,
having surpassed the critical ” the old rake “, the discovery of a
revolutionary treatntent, perhaps deserving of the Nobel Prize, not being
anything remarkable feat overshadowed by the Portuguese Nobel Egas
Moniz, recognized worldwide.

Thank you!!!!

AJ.B.M. – EAP 255

Jus to say the results for the treatment of prostate. My prostete had 191 9
and now has 84 g. Thank you for everything.

M.R.A. – 284 – No doubt that the embolization procedure in the treatment of prostate results as the results seen. Had the prostate to 191gr and is currently being 84gr. Thank you for everything.

M.R. EAP 289

I am 65 years old and i had PBH and always looking for a bathroom to urinate. After several medical opinions, I consulted Professor Pisco. After
some tests, thinking and pondering the problem, I decided to submit myself
to the Prostatic Artery Embolization for. I stopped the pills and after 3 or 4
days I was doing my normal life, that is, with significant improvements of
my sexual life. After 6 months PSA down to normal levels, and the size of
the prostate decreased 1/3. I am very grateful to João Martins Pisco and
his entire team. I want to say that method used by Prof. J. Pisco
considerably improved my quality of life.

V.J.P.S. EAP 301

I am the patient nr. 317 to be operated with benign prostatic hyperplasia
and treated by arterial embolization of the prostate. I am 65 years old and
diabetic type 11 since 4 years ago. After preliminary tests required, Prof.
Pisco alerted me to the fact that it can not guarantee the successful
outcome of embolization. Accordingly, and to the intervention, itwould be
my responsibility. Before the embolization: PSA values began to rise from
2009 (4.92). I Wake up to urinate at least 2 times. During the day, I had to
urinate every 60 minutes. I Was constantly urinating and always with the
feeling of not emptying your bladder completely. Any trip was always a
concern. Where was a bathroom? How long would the ride?etc .. etc .. ! I
dontt went to gym and swimming.1 had severe pain in ejaculation and was
more complicated urinating after intercourse. During the embolization: The
intervention took about 3 hours. It was more complicated than I expected.
It is virtually painless, which is longer feels the sting of anesthesia. After
embolization: I left the hospital at 16h by my foot and came home by taxi
because it was not convenient at ali drive. I had a hematoma at the
entrance of the femoral artery near the groin where the introduced
catheter. The unpleasant impression (some urge to urinate … ) lasted up to 22h (about 6 hours after discharge). It was quickly relieving this symptom  at 23h and was gone. The next day I started my normal life and avoided
sitting or Iying down. I traveled always on foot. Just after 5 hours I had to
urinate.

Fantastic! the urinary flow is clearly stronger. The examinations showed
that the prostate volume had decreased. Also started my sports: gym and
swimming. The hematoma disapeard after 1 month. The tests after 30
days (prostate ultrasound rectally, PSA and flowmetry), show that prostate
volume had passed from the initial 60cc to 51 CC, the urine flow was fairly
strong and the PSA had dropped from (8, 48) for (2.46). Sexual relations
have improved and the pain disappeared completely during ejaculation as
well as difficulty in urinating. Tests that have just now perform , 90 days
after, demonstrated that the prostate volume was 50cc now that the urine
flow remained strong with very little residue left after urination and that the
PSA had fallen to (1,82). The keep up these results, which are global, far
exceeding what was waiting – and moreover no guarantee of success –
could not be more pleased! Thanks to the entire team that participates and
collaborates in this innovative method.

J.R.M.  – EAP  317

It has now been over 6 months since my procedure and I feel great.  My BPH symptoms are greatly reduced although not eliminated.  I urinate much less frequently and without any urgency.  Thank you very much and I tell anybody who will listen to me about you.

D.N.  – EAP 324

I take the opportunity to inform you that my condition remains excellent, as it became immediately after the operation and my night sleep is no longer interrupted by frequent and useless visits to the bathroom!

J.P.B. – EAP 354 – After then already more than three months I am pleased with the decision I made to be submitted to prostatic embolization. In the first days after the intervention suffered more pain than what was the date and got a huge scare to shoot the PSA levels since this is one of the indicators of possibly carcinogenic situations. The symptoms that present today without taking any type of medication for this purpose are lower when compared with those who had the prostate pre-embolization: • The examination of urine flow shows a stronger jet; • The PSA decreased 40% having passed to 2:32 ng / mL; • The prostate ultrasound shows a smaller prostate that three months ago; • On average now I need to urinate once a night, possibly twice when I drink plenty of fluids. Although having been a reduction in the volume of the prostate I was waiting for the reduction in prostate volume had been more pronounced. However, I think I have at the moment better quality of life when compared with the situation that lived before it was submitted to prostatic embolization. I have yet to mention that I was very pleased with the professionalism and friendliness that Mr. Dr. Robin and his team have always shown before and after the treatment that made me

N.P. – 357

I am flying to Turkey on Monday and I will take another prostate volume control and I will send you report. At the initial stage, I am feeling my prostate is getting smaller, I am urinating better with more volume not big difference but its ok, bee sensation after defection has mostly disappered. I feel better then before. Pain around anus is also getting less and less everyday.
I will keep you updated.

A.M.M. – EAP 371 Having problems with the prostate (BPH) moderate, with a few years, so taking daily medication, regularly performing examinations of PSA, flowmetry and ultrasound. Over the years the PSA has a tendency to increase, which was my case. A lunch get-together of former military, I learned through a military comrade, there is a new technique to treat (BPH) conducted by Prof.Dr. João Martins Pisco in St.Louis hospital, consisting in this “Embolization Benign Prostate Hyperplasia.” After informing me of the new technique, scored consultation with Prof. Dr. John Martins Pisco. Efetuei additional tests in order to verify the degree of (BPH). The Prof.Dr. was of the view that could possibly perform the operation, in view of improving the quality of life, and minimize effects caused by (BPH). I had surgery in December 2012, having made the following tests over a year to further control: – At the 4th day realized exams result OK – At 1 month realized exams result OK – With 3 month realized exams result OK – With 6 month realized exams result OK – After a year of having made the operation results OK low PSA; Flowmetry OK prostatic ultrasound OK. – Conclusion: I stopped taking medication, I stopped having symptoms, and I have no problems in sexual activity. I thank Prof.Dr: João Martins Pisco and his team the results obtained so far, having been very pleased with the improvements in my quality of life.

L.A.L.C.C. – EAP 376 – When I heard about the Internet, the treatment of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) embolization of prostatic arteries as an alternative to prostatectomy, made me gain a new life. The likelihood of this process derived sequela such as power loss, incontinence and retrograde ejaculation was almost nil. Embolization applied to BPH, unfortunately so little spoken in our country, had magnified our name abroad, reaching many doctors come out to learn this technique with the team led by Professor Martins Pisco. I contacted Professor Martins Pisco, who scored me a query, asking me to take him ancillary elements of diagnosis. In the consultation, evaluated my history with the elements that had asked me, and told me that it met the conditions for successful treatment. The January 17, 2013 was performed embolization of both prostatic arteries. Complying with all program evaluations after treatment, symptoms have improved. The prostate weight increased from 100 g (before embolization) 79 grams PSA and is 1.49 in (3rd month results). There was in fact a better quality of life without the consequences that I feared. I wish, however, that the results continue to progress in upcoming reviews with impact on symptoms. Professor Martins Pisco and his team thank you, wishing that their work will continue to contribute to the health of patients and the good name of Portugal.

Dr. J.M.N.S.F – EAP nº 381 – There are about six (6) years I began to feel the first symptoms which were suggestive of BPH APENA day: pollakiuria, urinary infections often with dysuria, decreased urinary stream, etc .; PSA 2,8-3,4.Ecografia Normal prostatic volume with about 56 grams. Showed no nocturia and sexual activity was normal and frequent. Over the past two (2) years the symptoms worsened greatly, I began to introduce severe nocturia (I woke up on average 4-5 times per night almost could not urinate and sleep disturbance were sharp), started use alpha-blockers (various) without great result, I had some situations prostatitic with increases in the value of PSA after treatment with regressed long with quinolones. I prostate biopsy only revealed abundant absence of lymphocytes and cancer cells. Late last year the degradation of the quality of my life personal and professional was quite large, had marked decrease libido and frequency and quality of sex, prostate size was in his 78- 90 grams as the evaluation procedures. I felt, by this time, it was necessary submit myself to a surgical treatment that would reverse this clinical evolution unfavorable and should be close to a urinary retention. It was around this time that I contacted Prof. Martins Pisco in H. St. Louis and I underwent an innovative therapy Selective embolization of Prostatic artery that was made on 24 January this year. I had high the next day, and the trip to Porto, had pains (moedeira) perineal something nuisance; I Naproxen according to the protocol and everything calmed down. After 2-3 weeks after embolization, I started feeling marked improvements in urinary output, I suspended totally and definitively the alfabloqueantes, just get up one (1) time per night and during the day the urination were much less frequent. Noted that urinary improvements are checked from week to week. Currently I have no symptoms of BPH during the day with normal urinary stream and little frequent urination, sleep 7-8 hours straight at night. The libido, sexual activity and the mood improved with quite returned to pre-BPH symptoms standards. For all the above, I consider this highly effective therapeutic approach and the future in the treatment of this pathology.

J.D.T. – EAP 406 – Before having knowledge of treatment lived with unbearable anguish and quality of life, given the numerous voids that performed throughout the day. Suffered from BPH; Prostate with a 96 cc and a PSA of 6.25 ng / ml, and that 56 years. By the will of my urologist, had already performed biopsy and surgery for over two years. Something I’ve always been stalling. My intuition told me not to. It seems that was predestined to meet. Meeting with salvation. And salvation was this treatment. This treatment, pioneer, directed and performed in Portugal by Prof. João Martins Pisco, assisted in his wonderful team of Prof. James Bilhim and Dr. Lucia Fernandes. The next day the treatment made a PSA analysis 129 ng / ml. 4 days then come back to do another: 71 ng / ml. A month later I again make new PSA analysis: 2.03 ng / ml (it’s true, is not mistaken) and new eco-prostatic: 70 cc. I went back to have quality of life. I went back to feel good about myself. Not much more I can say, except, how much I am grateful to Prof. João Martins Pisco, Prof. James Bilhim and Dr. Lucia Fernandes. I will always want to have them to hear me, to advise and guide this my specific situation.

A.F.P.A  – EAP 437 – Good evening Professor Dr. Martins Pisco One year (made in May 2014) I did the treatment EMBOLIZATION PROSTATE, I come this way thank you for helping me to tackle the natural growth of PROSTATE already going on above the maximum values (less than 4,000) and analysis I made on March 28, 2014 have 0.748 ng / ml. My experience so far tells me that is an excellent method of treatment since ended the limitations began to have and the lack of quality of life that disturbed me greatly. Thank you I wish you and your great team the continuation of the greatest successes that I understand already crossed borders. a Hug

A.M.A – EAP 450 – Lord Prof. I want to thank the attention and treatment to which I was subjected on my recent recent visit visit to Portugal. and with great pleasure that I write this message to inform you that I feel like a young man, I spent the last ten years the way urologists and other doctors, the answer was always the same! (must be operated) have been putting off the decision because some of my friends who have undergone this type of intervention were not the best results, I am pleased to have made the decision to contact the Lord Teacher and have been accepted to do this kind of treatment the prostate that was a success. Nothing bothers me, I sleep the nights rested without having to walk to run to the bathroom all night. I was treated at St. Anthony’s day, this is in my memory as a holy day different from all the others. Thank you, I will visit it on my next visit to Portugal best regards

M.O. – 452

Thank you for referring this 70 year old patient.   In November 2013 he had an embolization of his prostatic arteries for BPH as part of a clinical study in Portugal.    He stopped his previous medication with Avodart and Tamsul and reports that his urine flow and symptoms are much better.     There was also no side-effects from the embolization and his sexual function improved after the procedure.

General urological examination normal.     External genitalia normal.    On rectal examination a soft 2+ BPH is palpable and his PSA is 1,19 ng/ml.     A rectal ultrasound shows his prostate volume 72 cub cms.

A urine flow study with a bladder volume of 382 mls shows a maximum flow rate of 31 ml/sec and an average flow of 17 mls/sec with a PVR of 20 mls.      The urine is clear.

It seems that he had a good response on the embolization so far and I shall like to see him again in follow-up after six months.

J.B. – EAP 453 – GOOD TEACHER AFTERNOON. BEST REGARDS. AFTER PROCEDURE WILL H.B.P. CAN CONSIDER ME THAT WAS A SUCCESS! WITHOUT MEDICATION HAVE COMPLAINTS URINARY OR SEX. (OF RELEVANCE OF PROSTATE DECREASE OF 56 TO 40cc VOLUME AND WASTE OF POST voiding 200CC FOR 12cc FENCE IN 1 MONTH AFTER INTERVENTION.

F.C.C – EAP 473 – Good morning, Drº Pisco. Thank you for your response. I feel he has improved very much, we owe it to you and will not forget, I have spoken of their work in Portugal and were very happy when the Drº proposed in the possibility give a new treatment at no cost, this attitude was very human and demonstrated its true nature.

B.G – EAP  506 – I left on Saturday to take the medicines prescribed by Urologist. I continue to take the prescribed me that, according to directions. I feel that I empty the bladder in each urination, feeling that previously did not have. The jet is still weak, but better, and above all I notice that I can be all the time needed to urinate, every time I do, always managing to stay with the feeling empty the bladder, which did not happen before. Yesterday and today still woke up 2 times at night to go pee. I feel better, eat expectation that the jet improve even more.

B.A.S. EAP 506 – I am 48 years old and had a prostate of 38 cc, with obstruction of complaints in urination, confirmed by several tests of uroflowmetry. After 1 year of treatment with drugs “alpha-blockers” (with which never gave me really well), was advised by a Urologist Director of Service a known Hospital of Lisbon, to be operated. The only risk I was told that the operation would was to “retrograde ejaculation”. Later, I consulted another urologist, also Director of Service of another prestigious hospital in the country, who recommended me change in medication, delaying the operation on the grounds that the “golden standard” in terms of intervention causes “retrograde ejaculation”, the that in perspective that expert, creates in man’s sexual well-being, some damage on an emotional level. I was blessed to through research, stumbling upon the pioneering work in Portugal, by a Portuguese physician, the Hon. Mr. Prof. Dr. João Martins Pisco, me who immediately corresponded and, hence, answered all my questions and anxieties about the three options I had: follow up with treatment with the medication; conventional surgical operation or treatment by embolization. The fact is that the side effects of the medication are in a position to take prolonged and more substantial than those that I have been notified by these experts. This despite the inserts are very explicit! But the fact is that all the experts (the most prestigious in the country) minimized the different effects of these drugs, particularly in relation to sexual activity. Moreover, the symptoms improved, at the start of medication, but the tendency of the obstruction over time becoming stressed. Moreover, none of those skilled in fact said risks involved in conventional operation, which is disclosed as a technique almost without risk. What, after several researches also concluded that it is not true. After preliminary tests, I was proposed by Mr. Teacher Dr João Martins Pisco to do the intervention, replacing local anesthesia by acupuncture anesthesia. Never in my life had acupuncture, but did not hesitate to accept. Anesthesia was well led by Dr Tsuchya Lord, and his team, which not only ensured that all the time of the intervention I did not feel more than a similar impression to a small pinch, as also in two sessions before embolization, I still managed to take a back pain I walked for three months trying to deal with anti-inflammatory and other medications. With regard to the symptoms of obstruction, changes during the first month after abandoned all of the medication is truly remarkable. A week later, it was evident the feeling completely empty the bladder in each urination, which had not happened to me long ago. On the other hand, the urinary stream strengthened and micturition time lasted from day to day. After one month, the requested realized and ultrasound examinations and not only decreases the prostate to 33 cc as evidenced by uroflowmetry that there was no prior obstruction. Symptoms continue to improve, particularly in terms of nocturnal frequency that has been declining. Mr. Professor Dr. John Robin, and his entire team, a huge THANK YOU. I hope this country one day you know give their due recognition.

J.B. EAP505 – I think embolization ran the best way, I no longer have that pressure to go each hour to the bathroom and the urinary stream this much better when I take flowmetry in which the results were amazing as you can see by the graph

L.M. EAP 522 – My most sincerely for the prof. my name is Luis Mendes and I am writing these lines on the evening of November 7, 2013 day that after 15 days I have been made embolization will prostatic artery took the catheter and began to urinate normally something that was not going to 4 months, the patient was No. 522 of prof. making embolization. was waiting at a public hospital on the southern shores of a query that would either not selected me to traditional surgery, it happens that through a friend I became acquainted with prof. Pisco. Give until the intervention was an apex and in three weeks I was solved a problem that was hampering me physically and psychologically want. I want to make a word of deep gratitude to Prof.. and his entire team without exceptions. I wanted to say here that will not stop publicizing this great work of a person that these parents are slow to recognize. I wonder why? When I embolization were a number of foreign doctors to attend. I leave here my testimony and my part will not stop in order to help the prof. to overcome the skepticism (is that all?) of the order of physicians. Thanks prof. and expect more words from me other platforms. A hug.

K.K – EAP 545 ( By J.B. Urologist)

Bom dia,

A Brasilian, 80 years old with bladder cateter for 4 months, that was taken out 12 days after PAE. Patient can now urinate easialy.

C.R.T – 573

Thank you very much for the excellent training and lectures you gave us during my visit to your hospital last week. The cases were very informative and I was very impressed by the speed with which the embolisations were performed. Many thanks once again

 Dr.º A.S.

F.G.T. EAP 588 – I’m doing well. I’m sleeping more hours every night now. In the morning, about six hours I urinate about 16 grams and a few hours later, I urinate in the same amount. This is a very good improvement and I feel 20 years younger. I do not trust doctors in the US and so I will go back to Lisbon, in six months, for medical follow-up examination Thank you and please see the picture of you and me.

J.M.C.N. (EAP 526) – 74 years, residing in Angola. I was sick and already thought the world was over for me. Do not urinated normally and I got to do it in his pants. The night I got to get up six times and still had the feeling that wanted to urinate. Desperate, I looked for Professor João Martins Pisco that in just over three hours solved my problem. Today I am a new man, urinate with ease and at night no longer get up to do so. For this reason I hereby present my thanks to Prof. Dr.º Pisco that I returned the will to live, once again my thanks.

M.C. EAP 560 – Recently made six months that I underwent a prostate embolization intervention. Thanks to the treatment, my quality of life has improved significantly, especially at night where there are fewer trips to the bathroom, no ardume perfectly normal urination without interruption until the emptying of the bladder. Contrary to what some say rumors, my sex life was affected at all and it is considered normal for an individual 67 years of age. Intervention is completely painless and without side effects, but a hematoma in the groin and inner thigh, a consequence of the catheter penetration.

Dear Dr. Pisco:

I am sending an interim report. we are now about twelve (12) days postop. I am happy to report that ALL aspects of those things concerned with the prostate are operating beautifully. with best regards case #633.

P.S. the gentleman from boulder,co. called and I was happy to say that I was very happy with the procedure

S.G- PAE 633

Bonjour  Professeur

Mon épouse et moi sommes bien rentrés à Tunis. Il y a une sensible amélioration de la situation depuis hier. Je me suis levé seulement une fois cette nuit pour uriner. C’est la première fois depuis 15 ans.

H.A.K – PAE 642

On the following 2-3 days after PAE procedure which was September 18, I did not feel significant improvement but in the next days I felt an improvement day after day for urinating well.

For the time being at night during my sleep I have to urinate by cystostomy’s catheter into bag for urine.

In the morning after waking up I usually block the tube of catheter by a clip. After occurrences feeling of desire urinate I usually can urinate all day in 30 – 90 minutes it depends from volume and   kind of liquid I drank. I usually drink a green tea and water. Volume of liquid is about 2-2, 5 liter per day.

Every desire urinate consist from two portions: the first portion is only 50 ml. and volume of next portion are more 100 ml. provided I wait for two or three minutes after first portion.  But if my bladder would be full by urine more than 500 ml. at one moment it was difficult to urinate at all. In this case I open the clip on catheter.

Now PVR are 100 – 200 ml. if I have opened clip after I urinated several times.

I am glad to note the urinary flow increased noticeably.

Of course, this is a short period of time to make a conclusion, but as I feel at the moment myself is well and changes is getting for better to me,

I express my thanks a lot to you Professor Joao Martins Pisco and all your excellent Team.

L.C. EAP 705 – I’m feeling better and Professor has a five-star team. Congratulations. I am very grateful to you. Thank you from the heart.

M.E. – At 55 MV discovered suffering from Benign Prostate Hyperplasia, a disease affecting the urinary system. For 20 years sought alternatives, consulted several experts, took all kinds of medication, no solution in sight. The surgery was the only answer, which could have serious consequences in the urinary system, or sexual impotence. 3 years ago discovered a new innovative technique for prostate treatment by embolization of prostatic arteries, taught by Professor Martins Pisco, in the Saint Louis Hospital in Lisbon since 2009. The patient was treated successfully in November 2012. Today Manuel Vicente regained quality of life.

MV, retired agronomist, had about 53 years old when he started medical surveillance to the prostate. According to doctors, had symptoms of tachycardia associated with andropause. Through medication, could lessen the symptoms. At 55 he began to feel changes in the urinary system. M. felt the urge to urinate every hour. Medical tests revealed a Benign Prostate Hyperplasia. Prostate size was excessively increased, causing problems side. She consulted several experts in urology, experienced any sort of medication to alleviate the symptoms. Improvements were few, or even zero. The medication for Benign Prostate Hyperplasia had side effects as decreased sexual function, or even sexual impotence.

The patient sought several opinions, solutions. The only way out of this health problem, according to experts, was prostate surgery. “I met many cases after being prostate surgery lost their power, others were with a catheter. I had a friend who became impotent after surgery and died of grief. I tried all the medicines you had. Some gave a momentary improvement, nor did other purpose. The value of PSA * Normal is 4, I got to have 8, 9. I avoided resorting to surgery to the prostate for the consequences that could have in my future life, “says MV

3 years ago, through an internet search, MV discovered an innovative method of treatment. This is the embolization of prostatic arteries (EAP) in the Treatment of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) is a new application of an already well-known technology and used in medicine, under investigation in several procedures and medical specialties. It is a minimally invasive technique that allows the relief of symptoms of the urinary tract in patients with BPH, which is held in the St. Louis Hospital in Lisbon, through a team led by Professor Martins Pisco, since 2009, has good results. To date, have been treated almost 700 patients, most with success.

MV made an appointment and found that patients were foreigners who came to Saint Louis Hospital to be treated by Professor Martins Pisco, as well as doctors who were trained to learn this technique. The patient opted for this treatment. Made all the necessary examinations, underwent embolization of prostatic arteries as an alternative to surgery.

This technique consists in the introduction into the inguinal region of a catheter percutaneously under local anesthesia. Under X-ray control of the catheter is directed into the prostatic arteries where small particles are placed as grains of sand irrigation reduce prostate size reduction leading to the organ. Finally removed the catheter and compression is exercised in the small hole of 1.5 mm for 10 minutes. Four to eight hours after the patient can go home and must remain at rest the rest of the day. The objective is to partially disrupt blood flow which supplies the prostate, allowing relief of lower urinary tract symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia, as well as a reduction in prostate volume. “As a rule this intervention takes about 2h. In my case it took just over an hour and a half. Introduced a catheter in the groin, I had no pain. That same day I went home, in my son’s company. After a two days was much better. I started to have a more active sex life, let you have trouble passing urine. Today urinate at intervals of 3 hours on average. The values of PSA are controlled. The only thing I can not overlook are the routine tests “he says.

N.A – EAP 716 –Some considerations: Before the embolization procedure that generated the main causes me discomfort were as follows:

  1. Difficultyto urinate, especially at night.Sitting was impossible
  2. Get up4-5times withdelaystarting urinationandfeelingthat he had not finished
  3. Any effort thatwasreleasing urine
  4.  Whenejaculatehadstrongburninggeneratingbother too large
  5. I could not stop taking Secotex 6. constantly felt discomfort in the region Urethral and years

Today after the procedure:

  1. Urinatingwithout difficultyeven sitting
  2. I get upno more than 2times a nightto sleep earlier
  3. I’m notexpellingdrops of urinewhile practicing effort
  4. No burning on ejaculate
  5. normal sexuallifewithoutany cumbersome
  6. I stopped takingsecoxfrom the procedure
  7. There is nobother some

That said my Dear Doctor wonder the care and follow-up should I have? Take this opportunity to ask if the prostate tends to continue to decline?

Good evening, and I hope you are well.

I am very pleased with my progress, so far on three nights I have slept through for 7 or 8 hours. Previously I would usually need 5 visits.

Hope you had success with the physician from Israel you were treating.

thanks again and best regards

G.M. – I am writing to you to thank you for the Prostate Artery Embolization you performed on me three years ago. I found the quality of care from start to finish to be outstanding. The operation itself took only one hour and went very smoothly. Most of all, the improvement to my quality of life as a result of this operation has been immeasurable and I haven’t experienced complications of any kind since it was done. I would highly recommend you to anyone considering this treatment.

W.K. EAP 758the urinary flow rate had definitely improved.  When I finally fell asleep, I believe I slept 5 or 6 hours, uninterrupted, which for me is extremely good.

G.W. EAP 690 – I have personally researched many options to deal with my BPH.  Armed with lots of info and many studies, I was intrigued by the logic and the simplicity of Dr. Pisco PAE procedure.   I went to Portugal, with some concerns and planned to evaluate before proceeding.  My consultation with Dr. Pisco was impressive and thorough.  The 3 day plan of tests, scans and prep for the operation confirmed my belief in his overall process.

The actual procedure (early September) was painless and with only a local, I knew what was happening at all times.

My urinary difficulties completely subsided within 10 days of the procedure.  I am having further study done to evaluate the reduction in prostate size from 250 g to ??   I will continue reporting and plan to revisit Dr. Pisco soon.

 R.T. – EAP 773 –

Dear Doctor,

How are you? So it is now a month later.

The good news is I can eat wider, not a lot but still I must check with my pendulum. Many foods on my former NO lists are now OK for me, at least for now. But I still must be careful. As an example, on Saturday I had some whole wheat sourdough bread that has usually been fine. But perhaps I reached my limit because after having some for breakfast and lunch I found myself urinating very frequently in the afternoon. I knew something had triggered that reaction. I went home and tested all that I had eaten and have found the culprit… the bread. Now that I have stopped it, I am much better. Going every hour or 2. And at night I notice a bit less often and the good news is more volume. It was rare before to have more than 150ml per pee but now sometimes it is 200ml and even 250 sometimes! So that is good. And my ejaculate volume is also up! A nice bonus don’t you think. So yes I wish my frequency were less, and yes I wish my sensitivity was less but I will take the positive changes happily.

So I have these questions for you:

Will I notice further improvement over time?

Would another embolization be helpful?

My page finally got listed but not high in the search results probably because one needs more pages on the topic with some of the other keywords. Of course you can use it. And here is some more good news! I slept straight 6 ½ hours last night and peed 300ml! That is such a wonderful feeling!

Let’s keep in touch!

Warm regards, Ron

S. C. EAP 787 – As far as the procedure is concerned, I think it was very easy and efficient, your team being very professional. The only minor concern is that that it was rather cold in the operating room… I can’t get a hold of my urologist who is traveling but will get in touch with him one way or another for an appointment early next week.

 S. S. – EAP 627 –I feel fantastic and I am so pleased that I had the procedure done at your clinic in Lisbon. It’s worth the long trip and we were fortune to get to know you as well.

Thank you for everything and congratulation on the prize received for your PAE.  I always recommend you to everyone.

J.C. EAP 788 – The procedure has been a great success for me. I am up about once a night now, some nights not at all. Most of the symptoms have improved and continue to do so.

My PSA on most recent PSA was 5.4.

R.B. EAP 773 – I want to share with you a new enlarged prostate procedure that has had excellent success for very enlarged prostate sufferers.

It is a non-surgical procedure that has no negative side effects, and has positive effects instead.

It is a high tech procedure that inserts a tiny 1 ml catheter into the arteries that supply blood to the prostate. It is done with a local anesthetic, no pain at all taking about a half hour or so to complete.

Tiny “beads” are deposited though the catheter near the prostate. This reduces the supply of blood to the prostate resulting in some shrinkage of its size and thus an improvement in prostate symptoms.

The procedure was developed by Dr Pisco in Portugal and well over 800 have been done since by him. He has trained doctors from around the world who come to the hospital there to learn it, including the famed Mayo Clinic. You can now search for hospitals that are doing it in the U.S. and other countries.

I had it done because I found that the one symptom which still remained for me was a sensitivity to many foods. When eaten my urination frequency would go up.

As a result of the procedure my sensitivity has declined dramatically and I can eat many foods in moderation that caused reactions before. My nighttime urination has also improved form 2 plus times to 1 plus times per night and the volume is up as well.

A side effect that has happened is an added bonus: ejaculation amount has doubled. Not a bad side effect!

If you are still struggling with enlarged prostate issues even after making changes to your diet and lifestyle as I describe in my books, then perhaps Prostatic Artery Embolization is worth investigating. Prostatic Embolization

R.A. EAP – 840Dr Pisco,

Sorry I’m a little behind on the questionnaire. I’m submitting the 1 month questions. For your information, as of 3 months, I feel things are getting a little better. Especially in urinary flow, my stream is much stronger.  I also believe there is an improvement in frequency to some degree, not as much as I would like, but it does seem to be getting better. I’ve attached some pictures I took after I got home of the Bruising, that took a while to go away. Everything else seems to be ok. My Dr would not approve the extra tests at this time. The Ultrasound, Urinary Flow ect. He said that since they had been done so soon prior to my coming to Lisbon, I would have to wait a little while before the insurance would approve them again. As soon as I am able to have these test done again I will forward the info to you.

A.I.H EAP – 850 – Dr. Pisco, I have no word how to thank you. You gave me back a quality of life that I missed for so many years.

I told about you to all my friends. I recommended your name, specially, to those who have similar problems of mine.

One of my close friends has enlarged prostate. His PSA is 20 and he is afraid to do biopsy. His mother was dead of cancer. His fear is removing the sample tissues during biopsy can aggravate if there is a cancer. I am not sure if it is true or not. What is your opinion?

Dr. Pisco, you did a remarkable on me, congratulation to you and you gave me a quality of life.

I will let you know when I learn my PSA in two weeks.

A.I.H – 850 – Dear Dr. Pisco,

I have very good news for you. I removed my Catheter on 8/13/2015. I waited for two weeks to inform you the good news to be sure everything is OK.

Here is the good news after I removed Catheter on 8/13/2015:

  1. Urinary stream: I have a strong urinary stream. I urinate as if I am 20 years old
  2. I sleep the whole night without  getting up for urination
  3. No urgency: I have no urgency to go to path room
  4. No Frequency: I am not urinate again and again

Dr. Pisco, I have no word how to thank you. You gave me back a quality of life that I missed for so many years.

I told about you to all my friends. I recommended your name, specially, to those who have similar problems of mine.

R.B. – 878 – In the two weeks since receiving PAE treatment administered by Dr. Pisco I have had gratifying results.  Prior to going to Lisbon I had tried many different types of treatment short of TURP surgery and its consequences.  None worked.  Now I no longer compensate by utilizing every facility I pass in order to void; my discharge rate is vastly improved, and sleep interruption to void is down to a minimum.  The decision to go to Lisbon was a BIG positive.  And, I am sharing my very positive experience with all of my friends here in Santa Barbara, CA.  Thank you Dr. Pisco.

Report from Urologist of RB – PAE 878

He had successful embolization of the prostate on August 20, 2015 in Lisbon. He has a much improved urinary flow and is now getting up once or twice at night to urinate. He denies any burning or pain with urination and has had no gross hematuria. He is very pleased with the results of the procedure. His doctor in Lisbon has requested he have a transrectal prostate ultrasound, PSA, uroflow and post void residual performed at this time. I also recommended a bladder ultrasound to see whether or not he still has the stone in his bladder. Blood was drawn for a PSA prior to any manipulation of his prostate today.  I reviewed how these studies are performed and reviewed the risks and potential complications. All questions were answered to his satisfaction. He agrees to proceed.

Bladder Ultrasound: He was placed in the supine position on the examination table and a bladder ultrasound was performed. He has an approximately 12 x 5 mm stone within his bladder that is clearly and easily seen. He still has a prominent appearing middle lobe of the prostate. His postvoid residual is 44.6 cc.

Transrectal prostate ultrasound: He was then placed into the left lateral decubitus position on the examination table and the ultrasound probe was inserted easily into the rectum. The prostate and seminal vesicles were scanned sequentially in the transverse and longitudinal planes. Representative photographs were obtained. The overall size of the prostate was 59.9 grams. The longitudinal length of his prostate was 54 mm. The height was 40 mm and the width was 53 mm. The middle lobe was not included in the above number, however, I would estimate the middle lobe would add about 15 g to the size.. The prostate capsule appeared smooth and intact throughout. He had some increased heterogenicity to the transition zone likely from the recent procedure. There was no TURP like defect visible on the ultrasound.

Uroflow: Peak flow 8.6 md/sec, average flow 2.8 cc per second and his voided volume was 105.9 cc

I explained the potential problems with leaving the stone within his bladder. Alternatives for the stone were reviewed and he agrees to return in 3 or 4 months for a followup bladder ultrasound. If the stone is still present he agrees to have transurethral removal. The prostate will be left alone as long as he is urinating satisfactorily, however, if he is having more difficulty urinating then a resection/vaporization could be done at the same time.

He is still taking Myrbetriq and Avodart. He would like to continue on Avodart once a week to prevent future prostate growth but was advised to try discontinuing Myrbetriq. All questions were answered to his satisfaction.

Once again, congratulations on the excellent results from the prostate embolization.

 RB – PAE 878

Dr. Pisco,

It has been a month since my treatment in Lisbon and what a difference!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  The results are most gratifying and effectively life changing and to the better.  I am now up one or two times at night as opposed to a range of from a low of four to a high of fifteen.  I am no longer afraid to be separated from a rest room facility when I pursue daily tasks or travel. My increased flow and no straining plus a feeling of completely emptying the bladder are but a few of the results of the procedure you administered.  THANK YOU!!!!!!!

W.B – PAE 893 – My procedure took place late afternoon of Thursday 24th September.

On Sunday 27th September I flew from Lisbon, back to Buffalo NY where I live.

To this date I have experienced no pain, no discomfort, no internal issues or anything to remind me that I had a two hour procedure on my prostate.

I am back at home doing many of the things that I did before the procedure, walking for hours each day, climbing stairs, taking out the trash bins to the street, cooking and cleaning, driving, shopping and many other activities, restricted only by the need to do things a little more slowly, and the catheter which I still have in place.

I am finding some issues with the catheter developing at night. On Tuesday night, as I sleep my bladder tends to fill up, and because the catheter bag in higher than my bladder, it fills slowly. Being a smaller bag, I need to get up several times a night to empty it. On Tuesday night there was a lot of urine that passed out of my penis, from around the catheter, so much so that the bed was wet, the carpet was wet from my urine and was coming out strongly from my penis.

I have tried to drink less at night to avoid a repeat of this same problem, as there was a lot of cleaning required on the Wednesday morning to rectify what had happened overnight.

This is really my only discomfort to date.

I am still taking all of the medication required and taking Rapaflo ever night.

Again I have no pain, and no discomfort whatsoever.

Thank you so much for your time and your patience during my procedure Dr Pisco

W.B. PAE – 893 –  I just wanted to advise you that my urine bag broke this afternoon here, and I was asked if I wanted the catheter removed, I told them yes, so I am now free of this horrible device and am urinating very well.

Many thanks and regards

D.S. – Radiologist of Mayo Clinic who frequent the course – Prostate artery embolization is gaining momentum due to its promising outcomes and the fact that it appears to be quite safe. The workshop was extremely helpful in that it addressed both technical aspects of the procedure as well as peri-procedural care.  Observing numerous cases before performing the procedure oneself is quite valuable as it provides insight into how to safely and quickly navigate both straight-forward and more challenging cases.

A.L. – Radiologist who attended our Course –

Dear Prof Pisco,  I am safely back in South Africa.

Thank you so much for the pictures!

It was an absolute pleasure meeting you and your world class team. I had a really enjoyable day and learnt a phenomenal amount.

I look forward to putting into practice the new skills that I have learnt.

Kind regards

W.B. EAP – 893 – Hello Dr Pisco

I am doing well and have no pain or discomfort and most importantly am urinating well.

The catheter was taken out late last week as the bag had split, so I had it removed and have had no problems with urinating, it is a good strong stream.

I am taking the Rapaflo every two days now, how much longer should I continue that please?

S. visitor urologist from South Korea who perform PAE – I safely arrived my mother country.

Having a lunch and good lecture from you was a real honor for me.
It will be one of the best scene in my carrier.
Congratulations for great achieving of 900 over PAE cases.
I will report this good news to my boss.
Thank you again for your warm invitation.

J. R. EAP 902 – Testimonial – Prostatic Arteries Embolization – Professor Doctor Martins Pisco It is about saving lives.

J. R. EAP  – 902 – Dear Professor Pisco, I hope you are well. I am doing fantastic! Urinating better and better everyday. Stronger flow and no residual (even now in winter). A wonderful feeling.

I wanted to pre-book my flights, etc for the 3 month exams/tests for the days 11 & 12 January. If ok, please also let me know at which day and time I can have an appointment with you as well. I speak to everyone about you and your procedure. All was great within a very caring environment.

Thank you again. Until January, with kind regards

D.L. EAP 916 – Thanks again for you have done for me and your great job
I have almost no more burn feelings actually with the treatment and it is getting more and more well

R.B. EAP 878 – This is the first of three attachments that are, admittedly, long overdue.  That is not because of lack of appreciation.  The results of my procedure (878) on August 20 of this year have been life changing for me.  Words cannot adequately express my appreciation for the results.  I seem to be plateauing at 1x per night and can go many hours during the day without voiding.  So, I can effectively live a life away from a urinal.

I know that my tests done by my local urologist were sent about a month after my procedure in Lisbon and I just forgot that you also needed the materials that are being forwarded in separate transmittals.

Time permitting please let me know that they have been received.

I am most grateful for the results.
W.B. EAP 893 –  My name is W.B., I live in Buffalo NY. I am originally Australian, from Australia and have been in the US for fifteen years.

My prostatic problem began just six weeks ago actually, (about July 25th, 2015) I was peeing relatively normally, I would get up perhaps a couple of times a night, sometimes not at all, but on a road trip to New York (City), I developed acute problems, the prostate had encircled the urethra and I was not able to urinate at all, and the pain in the bladder became intense over a number of hours.  The kidney pain was also quite severe and I had to go to the emergency ward at Albany, the capital of New York State, to have a procedure for the catheter (to empty the bladder) and over the course of the next six weeks, I had the catheter taken out.  I thought I could; it was just a problem that occurred that morning on the trip.  But no; I had to go into emergency three or four times in the States because of this issue with the urination.

I was told (in the States) to go and see a urologist, the urologist of course wanted me to do the TURP procedure, but doing a little bit of study on that (procedure) there were intense risks with that, and also it seemed to me it didn’t reduce the size of the prostate, and to me that seemed fairly important, because if they are going to “roto-router” out the urethra and part of the prostate, it is not really stopping it growing  There is something still creating the problem that cause it (the prostate) to grow.

So then I looked at green light laser. That also seemed like an unsuccessful procedure for many men that I read about on various blogs on the internet, and then finally I came across the site of Prostate Artery Embolization (PAE) that Dr Pisco does here in Lisbon (in Portugal).  So I came here (Lisbon) on the week of the 24th (September 2015), and I actually had the procedure on Thursday (24th).  It took about two hours, I was awake during the whole process.  I had a local anesthetic and they put a tube into one of the arteries, then looked at various arteries they would embolise in the prostate.  According to Dr. Pisco it was very very difficult; apparently I have very torturous, in his words veins, (should be arteries).  It was difficult to get at them because they split off at different points.  He did say he found the ones he wanted to and we’re hoping and I‘m hoping for a fully successfully reduce prostate over the next weeks.

Today is the 26th (September 2015) it’s Saturday, I was out all day at Sintra, about 20 miles from Lisbon.  I have been walking around all day.  I have walked many miles today.  In fact, yesterday, Friday, a day after the procedure, there was no limitation other than I took things slowly.  I walked slowly down stairs and I walked slowly, there was no pain, there is no blood in the urine, and I feel pretty good after two hours in surgery on the operating table.

One of the reasons that I chose Dr. Pisco over some of the other areas that do PAE is that he is the most experienced of any one in the world that does this particular procedure. So if I had difficult veins (should be arteries) or I had a problem, I wanted the best guy there, with the most experience, to be able to handle that.  Also I noted that many of the team that he had were younger doctors, very skillful, and very dedicated.  They really took the time to look for the best places to put the embolization, and I was asked after the operation, it finished at about 5(pm), to wait a couple of hours in my room without moving.  But around about 8pm I was able to walk around in the room.  There were other colleagues that had this same operation on this day, there were six of us in all.  Some of them were able to walk afterwards (and go back home).  So it certainly is a very risk free procedure.  With a local anesthetic, it doesn’t produce difficult problems within the process, as TURP does.  My urologist in the States said it could be two weeks to two months that you have bed rest, at least rest, so all of those things were taken into account as to why I wanted to come to Lisbon to have this procedure done.

When I took into account all of these factors that were problematic with the TURP and that (showed) very low risk for the PAE, this was one of the reasons that this is the place I would come. Dr. Pisco is world renowned for doing this procedure.  He has done over 900 patients to date; if there was any problem occurring then he would be the one to overcome this issue, and this was one of the reasons that Portugal was the place I needed to go.

I found the hospital very clean, the nursing staff were extremely friendly, extremely gentle, very nice; something that I am not used to n the States. The operating theater was very clean. They were pushing people in and out very quickly.  It was a delight to be in such a cleanly and efficient environment.

R. B. EAP 878 – Dr. Pisco, The results of the procedure done in Lisbon by you are life changing.  My condition had deteriorated to the extent that my entire daily life was centered around the availability of a facility that would enable me to void without any waiting time.  I did not have the ability to to “hold” and nights were unbelievable.  I was always up from seven to fifteen times to go to the bathroom.  Now, two and a half months later I am up no more than twice each night — most of the time once, and my days are normal.  I no longer program myself around bathroom facilities.  As I said above I am getting my life back. The radiological approach as opposed to the urological approach to BPE makes so  much sense.  There have been no negative side effects and I strongly recommend anyone with prostate issues to consider PAE as opposed to the various TURP procedures so often suggested by urologists.

V.F. EAP 910 – I wanted to give you a quick update.   On Wednesday last week the bleeding finally stopped.  So that issue has gone away.   Frequency of urination continue to decrease and flow is better.  Currently I’m only get up 1-2 times a night and the flow seems to definitely be better with very little hesitation in starting.   It’s starting to feel “normal” for like it was a couple of years ago.   So much better progress so far.

W.B. EAP 893 – I am attaching the results and survey questions for the first month after my procedure with you in Lisbon.

I am very happy and urinating very well. I have never had a problem to date.

The ultrasound shows me the prostate is now 84gms, (it ws measured at 100gms in Lisbon) and the PSA levels were measured at 2.1.

The only issue that I have which is that I still have frequent urination at night, so 2 or 3 times. However I think this relates to the fact that I  had a catheter for 2 months and the bladder muscles are still weak and will need more time to recover.

Can you let me know my PSA reading that we did there in Lisbon please.

Also as far as the first months reduction in the size of the prostate, is a 16% reduction, small, average or other? Do you graph all your clients reduction on a bell curve?  This would be interesting to see what is the average reduction in size and where individual patients fall within this bell curve.

Do you want me to send hard copies to you by mail? or will these email documents suffice for your records?

many thanks again and kind regard

V.F. EAP 910 –  Just wanted you to know I am still doing well and sleeping through the night most nights. I still take a single dose of Tamsolusin daily, but my flow rate is so much better. So nice not getting up 4-5 tons a night!

Overall doing very well thank you!

We are concerned about you. Have not heard from you for some time are you well?

B.L. EAP – 917 – Back home, after only two weeks the urine flow was improved remarkably, three weeks and the usual strong urge before passing the urine was very occasional. Now after about 2 months from the intervention I wake-up to go to the bathroom only twice at night compared to 4 times I used to before!

Thank you Prof. Pisco, I’m very pleased about these very early results. By the end of this month I will be having the “after 3 months test” you requested and I will foreword the results.

Thank you also for offering me the opportunity  to contact you on your mobile phone at any time for the days following the PAE and for the follow-up consultation.

Without any shade of doubt I can say that all service I received from you and your team at  St. Louis Hospital was excellent!

S. G. – EAP 633 –  Dear Dr. Pisco: I have had an eventful few weeks since I sent you an e-mail. I have had a cath + bag, antibiotics, cystascope, and I even tried testing with a do it yourself cath in case of an emergency. I am happy to report that the treatment you did seems to be working as of today. last night I only got up one time and the stream was very strong. I have an appointment with the urologist on the 21st of this month and it seems that I will pass. he was talking about a full or partial removal of the prostate according to what he saw when he did the cystascope. thanking you for your service.

C.C – EAP – 969 – I am doing well today before we leave for home. I wish to express my appreciation to you and your team for the excellent and professional care I received. Please extend my thanks to Dr. Tiago, who performed a difficult procedure without requiring a second catheterization. This was so apparent to me as I studied the X Rays afterwards. I also found Hospital St Louis staff to provide excellent care before and after the procedure, with a minimum of bureaucracy and excessive testing so common in the United States. At home we need a much better approach than our current Obamacare system with high costs, excessive paperwork, and control in the hands of the insurance companies and not the medical professionals.

C.C. – EAP – 969 – My informal urine volume and flow rates are around double the 5 ml/sec level before the procedure. I can go 3 hours in between urinating now versus 2 hours or less, very pleasant results!

C.C. – EAP – 969 – I have scheduled a meeting with my urologist for April to discuss the three month testing requests for the program. I sent him the required tests. At this point, I feel the procedure is helping my quality of life in regard to LUTS and also my sexuality as I taper off the finasteride. Thank you for making this procedure available to men like me!

M.S. – thank you and your team very much for providing us an excellent workshop with nice cases.

The results were very impressing.

In the following two weeks we will have the discussion with the Head of the Department of Urology about PAE.

We are optimistic to convince him to support the procedures with his patients.

As discussed in Lisboa, we then might schedule a second visit at your hospital – hopefully together with a urologist.

T.F. –  Sorry for my late mail. I hope you are doing very well. I want to say thank you for the very impressively workshop. It was a great pleasure to learn a lot from you.

I hope we can repeat this in the next month. In the next week we have a meeting with our urologists. I am confident, that we will find a way to introduce this method in our hospital.

W.T. EAP 994 –  Dear Prof. Pisco, Thank you and your team for performing the PAE on me yesterday. I wish to inform you that  I have had to remove my catheter one hour ago as it stopped me from urinating properly. I was not going to remove it until I am back in London in 2 days’ time. However, apart from some deep soreness around the region treated which I hope will soon get better , your treatment has worked for me within 24 hours. I hope that you will find time to train more physicians to be skilled in this procedure so that more men can benefit from it provided they are suitable. Hope to see you when I next come for follow up. With best regards and many thanks

W.T. EAP 994 – Dear Prof. Pisco. Thank you for your email and the photos. I am now back in London so I can drink more fluid as I have some dysuria and the volume is not great with some blood stained urine. I think the rawness will take at least one week to improve with the flow. I am very pleased that I was able to have the PAE done by your skilled team rather than having my BPH treated by the standard procedures available in U.K or U.S. in which case I would be in more pain and most likely be still in hospital. You have built up a unique team in Lisbon. I will inform the consultant urologists at my teaching hospital when I next see them.

H.S. EAP 983 – Approximately 2 ½ weeks after surgery, I began to note a major improvement in my flow and ability to void.  It is now four weeks after surgery and I am consistently voiding with a significantly stronger flow and, doubtlessly, higher volume levels than prior to surgery.  Flow seems better than when I started on Tamsulosin 5 years ago.  More importantly, I do not feel the bladder spasms that prior to surgery were common to almost every urination.  I also do not suffer from the sudden urgency to void – well, I will have an urge every once in a while, but it is not severe and I don’t feel the need to act on it.  It also goes away much faster – like 30 seconds instead for 4-5min.  I am no longer getting up more than once in the night and not voiding nearly as frequently during the day.  It this is the new normal, I am so happy.  The next step will to move off the Tamsulosin and Vesicare.  More on that in the next update.

PAE 1005 – D.P. – I trust this note finds you well. Time flies very quick and it is now almost three months after my treatment. I have now feel much better. I have slept better because I only need to urinate once during night time. During day time, most of symptoms are reduced or improved. I feel the stream is improved, no more straining and urgency. I also found that the frequency is less and feel that the ability to complete of emptying the bladder is also improved.

W.L. PAE 1056 – Dear Prof. Pisco,

Thank you very much for your kind important follow up message. With my strong appreciation, I planned tomorrow to concentrate on the testimonials. I now reached at my duty station in Khartoum Sudan. I first travelled from Lisbon via Rome to Ethiopia where my family is located. Tomorrow is a weekend day. So, rest assured that I will work on it both under your webpage plus the feedback exchange under the forum. In any case and whenever needed, you can use me as good a good case reference under the patient code 1056.

My PAE Treatment Experience on 07 July 2016 by Prof. M. Pisco at St. Louis Hospital in Lisbon, Portugal

I had my PAE treatment procedure done two weeks ago on 07 July 2016 by Prof. Martins Pisco and team at St. Louis Hospital in Lisbon, Portugal. I am 47 years old and was the 1056th PAE treatment procedure patient.

I encountered acute urine retention and associated BPH symptoms and was catheterized in a hospital number of months ago. By then, the ultrasound result showed a very large prostate problem. The medical doctor in consultation with a general surgeon recommended an immediate open surgery. I instead resisted and demanded to think over it. The next day, I visited Urologist while under a catheter. His diagnosis confirmed the same problem of very large prostate. He recommended immediate open prostatectomy and suggested if I could be admitted in the hospital right away. Again, I resisted and demanded to think over it. The Urologist has stated rather gloomy remark that the only solution would be immediate invasive surgery. So, he prescribed Alfuzosin [Xatral] 10mg/day until I make up my mind and recommended to remain under catheter. I began taking the prescribed medicine. However, I instead went back to the previous hospital that catheterized me and my catheter was removed after the third day.

As a process to make up my mind for the open prostatectomy, I continued reading and reviewing literation on the conventional BPH treatments [particularly on Open Prostatectomy]. Unfortunately, my review shower many severe disadvantages and complications such as risks of bleeding, impotence, erectile dysfunction, urinary incontinence, loss of ejaculation, retrograde ejaculation, stricture formation, long hospital stay and recovery period, urinary retention, and many other side-effects that critically reduce my quality of life. The possible prospects of the latter severe side-effects put me under serious stressful dilemma with a sense of hopelessness whether to whether I would undergo the surgery or not.

Nevertheless, I continued my literature review on recent BPH treatments. Just over a month ago, I google searched with ‘BPH treatment 2016”. Then, I suddenly came across with PAE treatment procedure discovery as a breakthrough treatment by interventional radiologists than urologists. It was a turning point to begin getting away from my hopelessness situation. I continued reviewing the PAE treatment literature voraciously and enthusiastically with great interest.

The review led me to discover Prof. Martins Pisco’s ‘International Prostate Medical Centre at St. Louis Hospital’ with detailed broad highlights of PAE treatment procedure [pre-, during, and post PAE], publications, patient testimonials, pictorial photo and video documentation. Almost over 1000 patients were treated under Prof. Martins Pisco by the time I discovered his website. Using the contact address, I immediately sent an e-mail, for which I received prompt reply. I replied to the e-mail by completing the necessary forms plus enclosing supporting documentation. Following receipt of confirmation on my eligibility for PAE treatment procedure, I immediately travelled to Lisbon and began my pre-PAE preparatory diagnosis. Prof. Martins Pisco’s examination and diagnosis included PSA and related blood test, Angiography-CT Scan, Urine-flowmetery, and MRI, which were completed from 04 – 06 July 2016. A day before the actual PAE treatment, he re-confirmed my eligibility for the PAE treatment procedure based on the outcomes of the different diagnosis.

On Thursday 07 July 2017, I underwent the PAE treatment as a 2nd patient out of eleven scheduled for the weekly procedure. As I was undergoing the treatment, the procedure began with a local anaesthesia around my right side femoral artery with a small needle. Then, a 1.5mm needle was used to perform my PAE treatment with a minimally invasive procedure, which was rather painless except minor feeling of discomfort as Prof. Pisco and the professional team performed the procedure. After 30 minutes, I was informed that the embolization of the right side was completed. After another 30 minutes, I was again informed that embolization of the left side was completed. The entire procedure was completed within one hour. Since it was not as such painful, I was interacting with Prof. Pisco and his professional team, requesting them to take memory photos [which I possess them now].

I was moved to a recovery room where I was told to stretch mainly my right side foot where the catheter was inserted. After two hours, I used the wash-room on my own. Since I was alone, Prof. Pisco recommended me to spend the night in the hospital instead of returning to my hotel, which I accepted. In the late afternoon same day, I was already walking inside the hospital’s small nice garden. The next day morning, Prof. Pisco checked me and I returned back to my hotel walking alone a distance of more than 10 minutes alone. The slight feelings of discomfort were all gone within two days and then I was walking in the city centre and around, visiting many nice sight-seeing places in Lisbon.

Overall, my PAE treatment in Lisbon brought me back my hope for a quality of life without any pain and blood loss as well as without any worries of severe risks, disadvantages and complications expected from conventional treatments. The PAE treatment transformed my hopelessness status to one full of hope to enjoy a quality life. I have already begun witnessing the early highly promising positive results. Currently, I stopped taking the medication, including Alfuzosin 10mg. My urine flow has shown significant improvement. The frequency of night urination is limited only to 1-2 times on average depending on the volume of my liquid intake. My personal IIEF-5 function index issues have already begun showing noticeable improvement whereby I am witnessing a happy and healthy quality family life.

I have been witnessing fast improvement after the procedure because the PAE treatment may have contributed to the softening of my prostate tissues and relaxation of the urethra muscles alongside the expected possible reduction in the size of my prostate [which can be measured after 2.5 months]. Currently, I am on my full-time work in the office without much worry of the previously bothering BPH symptoms.  I am enthusiastically looking forward for the 3 months’ progress monitoring test after 2.5 months to support the current promising outcome I am feeling and witnessing now with quantified credible evidences of medical tests and examinations.

I am among those lucky ones who benefitted from this fundamental ground-breaking discovery of PAE treatment procedure by interventional radiologists with their accumulated knowledge, skills, and experience in arterial embolization. This break-through discovery has transformed my hopelessness to full of hope. I have no enough words to express by deepest gratitude to Prof. Pisco and his professional and administrative team for their extra-excellent professional and exemplary human qualities. He and the team members are gifted and blessed to do such a wonderful and fabulous PAE treatment as a simple out-patient procedure to alleviate the sufferings of BPH patients without pain and much worry about risks of complications. Without any sense of exaggeration at all, my PAE treatment was my rebirth, which has provided me back my quality life full of hope. Had I undergone the open prostatectomy as decided by the Urologists, my present life would have been miserable due to the obvious side-effects and complications. I have no enough words to express my gratitude to Prof. Martins Pisco, who saved my life with this effective discovery without any side-effects that I will remember you throughout my entire life

I consider the PAE treatment as a miraculously amazing foundational medical discovery to be nurtured and expanded widely throughout the world so promptly. This enables many BPH sufferers to benefit out of it before they end up risking their quality life under the risky conventional treatments full of irreplaceable side-effects, disadvantages and complications.

Based on my own first-hand most recent experience, I highly recommend to anyone suffering from BPH problems to undergo the PAE treatment procedure in under Prof. Martins Pisco in Lisbon [Portugal] or anywhere in the world where the BPH medical breakthrough service is available. For example Prof. martins Pisco has already treated over 1050 patients from over 75 countries in the world [as learnt from his own words]. All patients, including myself benefited immensely without worries of risks, side-effects, disadvantages and complications of expected from the conventional BPH treatments.

Once again, the above account is from Prof. Martins Pisco’s 1056th patient who underwent PAE treatment procedure on 07 July 2016. I recommend for the prompt expansion and promotion of the risk-free PAE treatment procedure across the world so that all BPH patients benefit out of it.

W. T. – EAP 994 – Dear Prof Pisco, I hope you are well I went back to my hospital last week and saw my Urologist for my regular  6 monthly CT scan result for my  R. kidney follow up which is fine. He told me that my prostate size is now about 100cc which is about 1/2 the size before my PAE at your center. I can urinate about 200ml each time with no problem. My urologist said I have sold the procedure to him also to my G.P. With  best regards and thanks, Sincerely,

This Juan. I just want to thanks for your hospitality during my stay at your clinic. Just to let you know that I have not experienced any unusual post PAE effects. The prostate slight-pain only lasted a couple of days after the operation.

However, there is something I would like to share with you. A few days after i returned to Canada (last week); during peeing i felt something got stuck in my penis’s urethra. It caused burning (only during peeing) and reduced urine flow; This lasted 5 days. Two nights ago I expelled a big size bladder stone. I am attaching the photo, so you can see the size. It’s size matches to what was reported in the CT scan I got done last February here in Canada. It caused burning and bleeding. The bleeding stopped quickly and the burning only last 1- days. Now, I feel that my urine flow is very good and I do not feel any prostate-related pain.

I feel relieved that my bladder stone is gone. I think it was caused by the urine retention and related to my enlarger prostate.

I made appointment with my family doctor and i should see her on June 19. She will help me scheduling the tests you suggested. I slowly feeling my prostate better. I hope this will continue improving.

Thanks Dr. Julio Martins.

I will write you after my appointment with my family doctor.

Juan

Note: for expelling the bladder stone, i used “chanca piedra”; it is very popular natural medicine in Peru to relieve the symptoms of kidney stones. It seems to worked for my bladder stone, too
